The fact that every employee at Mentor has their own story to tell is important in defining who we are. Ours is a culture completely devoted to respecting this diversity and dedicated to using our employees' unique talents to their full potential.

We're results-oriented. Because this is a fast-paced industry, we challenge our employees to set goals, accept responsibility and solve problems. And we reward people for taking on these challenges.

We're also human. MGC maintains a close-knit, roll-up-your-sleeves atmosphere, with programs that encourage our employees to keep learning, take care of themselves and their families, enjoy a bit of the good life, and be actively involved in the communities where we live and work.

At Mentor Graphics, our software products are on the cutting edge, and our Benefits programs are, too. Of course we have great health and income protection plans. It's our innovative approach to employee stock purchase, our adoption benefit, and many other programs that really set us apart.

Mentor benefit programs vary with the locations where Mentor people work so they’re competitive with local markets and compliant with local legislation. All are aimed at providing security and making it easier to enjoy your work and life.

Here are a few examples:

Adoption Benefit Program

Designed to help offset the costs of adopting a child, the program reimburses 100% of all eligible legal, medical, and agency fees related to the adoption, up to $5,000.

Employee Stock Purchase Plan

Available in 16 countries, the plan offers the opportunity to purchase Mentor Graphics shares at a 15% discount.

Flexible Time Off (FTO)

In addition to the paid holidays for your work location, you’ll receive 24 days of paid time off to use at your discretion, beginning with the first year of employment. Employees accrue two days of paid time off per month until their accrual reaches 80 hours, encouraging employees to take much needed time off throughout the year.

Pre-paid Legal Program

You, your spouse or domestic partner, and your eligible dependents can elect to receive a wide range of legal services from experienced attorneys at a low semimonthly rate.

Historically, Mentor Graphics has had a strong corporate commitment to the community. We provide our employees with a variety of avenues for community involvement.

School to Work Activities

Continually striving to be an excellent corporate citizen, Mentor Graphics has a strong link with the public education system. As a technology company, we value public education believing that the success of Mentor Graphics and the education community are linked. Our employees have opportunities to be involved in School To Work activities such as:

  • Career Fairs
  • Job Shadows
  • Informational Interviews
  • Take our Children to Work Day
  • Junior Achievement

Mentor Graphics Foundation

Mentor Graphics donates one percent of its yearly profits to the Mentor Graphics Foundation. The Foundation was established to ensure the communities within which we live and work gain from our presence. The Mentor Graphics Foundation has two programs to support the development of quality education programs for our U.S. employees and their families.

K-12 Volunteer Grant Program

This program is designed to support our employees' involvement in School to Work activities and K-12 education. For the first 100 hours MGC employees spend volunteering in a school, the Foundation will grant the school $500. Every additional 20 hours earns another $100.

Matching Gift Program

The Foundation will match employee donations up to $500 per year to both K-12 Schools and Universities/Colleges.

Higher Education

Mentor Graphics strives to develop long term relationships with engineering colleges and universities around the world because we believe the success of the electronics industry is dependent upon highly skilled engineers.

I worked at Mentor Graphics full-time (More than 5 years)

Competitive compensation, 401k with employer match, employee stock purchase plan, 24 days per year of flexible time off, and more. As a software developer, there are pretty interesting technical challenges to work on, even when working on bug fixing, you are dealing with very large electronic design data sets from leading electronic company. That's definitely pretty cool if you enjoy EDA, consumer electronic, etc.

For a F500 company, there is not many career paths, as most divisions at Mentor Graphics are not large enough to allow many opportunities, If you work at a site away from the HQ in Oregon, you will most likely be in a small team with pretty static job.

    Difficult Interview

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Mentor Graphics (Wilsonville, OR) in August 2015.

I was interviewed by four people over three hours: the manager I'd be reporting to, a woman who does the work I would do, and two marketing directors. It was fairly grueling, but all four were thoughtful and knowledgable. The manager and the co-worker were very encouraging and gave me the information I'd need to understand what the job was about and how to manage the more difficult aspects of it.

    Interview Questions

    • This was a highly technical position: ghostwriting content, such as conference presentations and white papers, for integrated circuit design engineers. The biggest question was "Will you enjoy working on such technical material day in and day out?"   1 Answer
