I worked at Meso Scale Discovery full-time (More than 8 years)
Brilliant colleagues who inspire and motivate you;
Intellectually stimulating work;
Exposure to interesting technologies;
Wonderful people to work with;
Endless opportunities for learning, growth and development;
Good benefits; and
Did I mention the people?
Dedicated, hard-working, fiercely smart, caring, open, warm and down-to-earth individuals in every department, and at all levels of the organization. I really cannot say enough good things about the people who work at MSD. I was with the company for several years, and I always felt valued by my coworkers and by the company. Joining MSD was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
The company grew immensely during my tenure and, naturally, some challenges came with that growth. For example, scaling various processes and procedures to keep up with company growth and the speed of business was a challenge. Also, the volume of work could be challenging at times. However, open lines of communication can help with process improvements and prioritization of work.
Advice to Management
As the company continues to grow, continue to work on improving various processes and procedures to scale. (e.g., perhaps consider appointing individuals from different departments to serve on a processes improvement committee and have them meet regularly with a goal of process 'waste elimination'.)
Continue to offer low-cost and comprehensive health and other benefits.
Retirement fund options are good, but adding even more low-cost options to choose from (and perhaps a Roth 401K) would be great.
I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Meso Scale Discovery in October 2016.
Hand in the resume to hiring people in a career fair. Got contacted by hiring manager in about two weeks for a phone interview. Asked a lot of technical questions based on my resume. No behavior questions.
