On Sunday, September 30th, the small but mighty MEC team completed the Pedal the Cause charity bike ride to benefit cancer research. All of us know way too many relatives, friends or colleagues who have been inflicted by cancer. The vision of PTC is “a world without cancer”. As a result of the great work of medical professionals across our country we are getting closer every day.
It was a great effort and with the tremendous generosity and support, the Metal Exchange Team has now raised $16,996 for the cause!
Metal Exchange Corporation is proud to have supported Big Brothers Big Sisters and Bowl for Kids’ Sake for the past 13 years and raised $238,000! We are excited that our very own Big Brother, Kevin Schmidt, has been a Big Brother for the past 3 years and willing to talk to us about his positive experience with the organization. Thank you to MEC’s Ben Evans and Melissa Bode with Big Brothers Big Sisters for their help in organizing our kick-off event for the upcoming Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraiser on November 30th!

SAFETY, INTEGRITY, RESPECT and DRIVEare the four core values of the Metal Exchange Corporation family of companies.
We lead with SAFETYbecause there’s nothing more important that the safety of our employees. For some organizations, safety is just a slogan, but for MEC, it’s the only way we do business.
INTEGRITYis at the core of all we do because our name is only as good as our word – and the way we do business is what sets us apart and what has led to our organization’s success since 1974.
RESPECTis the cornerstone of our “one team” mentality. We work every day to create an environment of respect with our colleagues, customers, suppliers, industry and the communities in which we work.
We wouldn’t have been able to achieve and maintain our position as an industry leader if it wasn’t for DRIVE. Our employees are the key to our success and it’s their passion that allows us to deliver on our commitments and delight our customers every day.
Our Core Values are complemented by MEC’s “Dual Bottom Line” philosophy: Our commitment to achieving an equal balance between our drive for financial success and the well-being, development and growth of our people.
At Metal Exchange Corporation, safety and wellness go hand in hand.
We make safety our number one priority because we are committed to ensuring that our employees are safe, not only at work, but in their personal lives as well. We’ve invested heavily in employee-driven safety initiatives, we benchmark our programs against some of the safest companies in the world and we will continue to be unyielding in our pursuit of becoming an accident-free company. MEC is also proud to be a founding member of the ISRI Safety Circle of Excellence, helping to provide safety leadership throughout our industry.
We promote wellness throughout our organization, not simply as a means to manage healthcare costs, but more importantly because we genuinely care about our employees and want to see each of us enjoy a long, successful, healthy life. Our wellness initiatives at MEC focus on all three elements of wellness – mind body and spirit – because we realize that we’re unable to maximize our potential unless we’re well inside and out.
I worked at Metal Exchange Corporation (More than 3 years)
The People. Great management. I worked here for 3 years. I still miss the culture at this great company. They hire talented people and they are constantly growing.
It can be a tough industry. The metals business is cyclical and the company had their first layoffs last year.
Advice to Management
Keep up the good work
