Methodist Hospitals – Why Work For Us?

Methodist is a not-for-profit, community-based healthcare system that is governed by a 20 member board of directors. Stewards of our mission, we reinvest in our cities and towns through charitable giving, community education programs, support services, screenings, and by ensuring quality care to our most vulnerable and underserved citizens. We strive to be a part of our community as a strong advocate for its continued physical, emotional and economic well-being. Our primary service areas are Lake and Porter Counties.

Our mission is to provide compassionate, quality health care services to all those in need.

Our vision is to be the best place for employees to work, the best place for patients to receive care, and the best place for physicians to practice medicine.

The following values are our guiding principles of conduct as we carry forth our mission and pursue our vision. These shared values embody the spirit of our organization and our commitment to one another and those we serve.

ICAREIntegrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence

Nursing Opportunities

A Great Place for Great Nurses to Thrive

At Methodist Hospitals our innovative nursing governance model develops highly engaged, motivated nurses. This in turn creates an environment where patients can feel the difference of being cared for by a highly qualified staff of nurses who are very caring, listen, and are attentive to their needs.

The shared governance model is an innovative program that enables nurses to collaborate with management in decision-making about patient care, their practice, and unit operations. In empowering nurses to develop and direct their own practice, the program inspires excellence in nursing.

Nurses participating in shared governance identify problems or areas in which improvements can be made. They find solutions by looking at evidence-based, best practice research. Changes are implemented that will render the best possible patient outcomes.

Nurses who are able to use their experience and knowledge are happier and more productive, which is why Methodist attracts and retains top notch nursing staff. Participating in shared governance motivates nurses to keep up on the latest findings, and many return to school to certify in their specialty.

Additionally, Methodist Hospitals understands the importance of proper job training, professional development, and continuing education for all employees.  Nurses at Methodist are kept current in their training and advancing in their development through courses and programs developed and directed by Methodist Nursing Educators using the HealthStream Learning Management System.

Leading the Way

Methodist Hospitals is Northwest Indiana’s leader in high level, complex acute care. From our award-winning Women’s Services and Bariatric programs to our NeuroScience and Oncology Institutes, from our growing cardiovascular program to our top-flight emergency services (recently certified a Level III Trauma Center) and newly launched Spine Care Center, Methodist consistently sets the standards for specialty care in Northwest Indiana.

Patients who come to Methodist Hospitals find an unprecedented level of excellence in a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, from orthopedics to behavioral health to rehabilitation and home health services. We offer state-of-the-art diagnostic techniques, an advanced radiotherapy and radiosurgery treatment system (with our TrueBeam system), and innovative programs in bloodless medicine and wound care.

Methodist Hospitals is comprised of dedicated teams of physicians, nurses and other medical professionals who are committed to maintaining the highest standards of care.

Investing in Excellence

Methodist Hospitals has embarked on an expansion program that encompasses facilities, services, technology, and its physician network.  

  • Methodist Hospitals continues its commitment to delivering the highest level of patient care to Northwest Indiana with the da Vinci Si Surgical System. The most advanced da Vinci platform, the Si expands surgical capabilities beyond the limits of the human hand and eye.
  • Recently Methodist invested in the most advanced diagnostic technologies for lung cancer and other pulmonary diseases. Northwest Indiana’s only Electromagnetic Navigation Bronchoscope (ENB) and most advanced Endobronchial Ultrasound (EBUS) help physicians administer quicker and less invasive procedures with better patient outcomes. 
  • In early 2012 we unveiled the FIRST and ONLY hospital in Northwest Indiana region to offer a Multi-Specialty Computer Assisted Surgery Suite featuring GPS technology.
  • 3D Mammography (the FIRST in a 100 mile radius) gives patients the most accurate results, better than digital mammograms. These vastly improved mammogram images, available ONLY at Methodist Hospitals, make it easier for our radiologists to detect abnormalities. 

With a highly qualified team of specialists and the most advanced technology and equipment, including the ONLY Gamma Knife and Biplane Cath Lab in Northwest Indiana, Methodist ensures patients with a variety of neurologic diseases receive unsurpassed care.

Recent Projects

  • The Emergency Department at Southlake was expanded 1,800 square feet and renovated to decrease waiting time and increase the quality and delivery of patient service.  The FIRST and ONLY certified Level III Trauma Center in Northwest Indiana. 
  • The new Breast Care Center at the Southlake campus established a new entry point for diagnostic services including mammography and bone densitometry to the community.

These investments are intended to ensure that Methodist Hospitals will continue to deliver quality care to Northwest Indiana’s most complex cases across a range of specialties.
