Methodist is a not-for-profit, community-based healthcare system that is governed by a 20 member board of directors. Stewards of our mission, we reinvest in our cities and towns through charitable giving, community education programs, support services, screenings, and by ensuring quality care to our most vulnerable and underserved citizens. We strive to be a part of our community as a strong advocate for its continued physical, emotional and economic well-being. Our primary service areas are Lake and Porter Counties.
Our mission is to provide compassionate, quality health care services to all those in need.
Our vision is to be the best place for employees to work, the best place for patients to receive care, and the best place for physicians to practice medicine.
The following values are our guiding principles of conduct as we carry forth our mission and pursue our vision. These shared values embody the spirit of our organization and our commitment to one another and those we serve.
ICARE – Integrity, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence
A Great Place for Great Nurses to Thrive
At Methodist Hospitals our innovative nursing governance model develops highly engaged, motivated nurses. This in turn creates an environment where patients can feel the difference of being cared for by a highly qualified staff of nurses who are very caring, listen, and are attentive to their needs.
The shared governance model is an innovative program that enables nurses to collaborate with management in decision-making about patient care, their practice, and unit operations. In empowering nurses to develop and direct their own practice, the program inspires excellence in nursing.
Nurses participating in shared governance identify problems or areas in which improvements can be made. They find solutions by looking at evidence-based, best practice research. Changes are implemented that will render the best possible patient outcomes.
Nurses who are able to use their experience and knowledge are happier and more productive, which is why Methodist attracts and retains top notch nursing staff. Participating in shared governance motivates nurses to keep up on the latest findings, and many return to school to certify in their specialty.
Additionally, Methodist Hospitals understands the importance of proper job training, professional development, and continuing education for all employees. Nurses at Methodist are kept current in their training and advancing in their development through courses and programs developed and directed by Methodist Nursing Educators using the HealthStream Learning Management System.
Methodist is committed to our employees overall health and well-being. We are proud to offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package because we want our employees to be at their best each and every day. At Methodist, we offer a full range of employee benefits including:
Methodist Hospitals, Inc. has partnered with go365 by Humana to offer a personalized wellness and rewards based program that includes health coaching. The program is available to employees and their spouses. By participating in the program, employees earn points which help them work toward a wellness status – Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Platinum. If employees achieve a Silver, Gold, or Platinum status, they have the opportunity to earn wellness credits from Methodist Hospitals towards their medical premiums. The higher the status, the higher the reward! In addition to the opportunity for wellness premium credits, points can be used in the go365 Mall for various items such as gift cards, wearable fitness devices, fitness equipment, or an iPad.
The Employee Assistance Program can help with a variety of work/life issues for employees and their family members. The EAP is a CONFIDENTIAL, NO COST program designed to help employees and their family members. The program is designed to provide counseling to employees and their families to deal with life’s unexpected changes and events that can severely impact our day to day lives.
At Methodist, employees are offered a wide range of introductory, training, and continuing education courses through HealthStream. With thousands of courses available in the HealthStream Learning Management System, employees can participate in courses that range from general orientation courses, covering safety and culture, to area specific courses directed by Nursing Educators and all overseen by our Organizational Development & Learning Manager.

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Methodist Hospitals (Merrillville, IN) in January 2015.
Met with HR representative and then was taken to meet my hiring manager. I was then taken on a tour of the unit. I went home and received a call offering me the job later that day
