GIVING BACK

Doing good isn’t an assignment, it’s a way of thinking, a philosophy.

Mission Essential has long been involved in a variety of charitable activities, from Ride 2 Recovery at home to the Decan Wildlife Preserve in Djibouti. Whether it’s funding a scholarship program at the American University of Afghanistan, providing pro bono service to the Harvard Kennedy School’s Carr Center for Human Rights Policy, or even just adopting a highway in our backyard, Mission Essential continually gives back to the communities where we operate and serve.

MISSION ESSENTIAL AND RIDE 2 RECOVERY

Ride 2 Recovery — making a difference in the lives of healing heroes. R2R improves the physical and mental wellness of our nation’s injured veterans by using cycling for rehabilitation. These brave men and women are provided bikes (often customized to fit their specific needs), mechanical support, food, lodging and extracurricular activities as part of the overall rehabilitation program through R2R.

In 2013, Mission Essential began a lasting partnership with R2R, providing support, leadership, and volunteers to help to expand the organization’s scope and draw attention to R2R’s vital mission.

HONOR RIDE OHIO 2014, 2015, 2016

Ride 2 Recovery’s main fundraising vehicle is Honor Rides — one-day cycling events in numerous cities across the country. Mission Essential hosted the Second Annual Honor Ride Ohio on Memorial Day weekend, May 23, 2015, with over 1,000 riders raising over $300,000. In 2016, Mission Essential will continue promoting awareness for Ride 2 Recovery programs by participating in the Third Annual Honor Ride Ohio on May 28th.

DECAN WILDLIFE PRESERVE

Mission Essential employees stationed in the Horn of Africa co-founded the Camp Lemonnier Cheetah Refuge Volunteer Program, which clears invasive tree species at the 300-acre refuge and otherwise tend to the needs of the animals there. Animals notably consist of cheetahs and lions, but also include zebras, gazelles, hyenas, ostriches and even sea turtles. The ultimate goal of the refuge is to eventually release the animals back to the wild.
