Moderna has been named a 2015 Top Employer by Science magazine.
At Moderna, we are pioneering the development of a new class of drugs made from messenger RNA (mRNA). Our mission is to deliver on the promise of transformative mRNA science to bring new medicines to patients. Our vision is to unlock the potential of this new field of science by establishing an ecosystem of teams and partners that will work together to develop the broadest possible array of drugs across diverse therapeutic areas and routes of administration, for serious diseases not treatable today.
Our novel drug platform, combined with the hard work of our team, has garnered strong support from financial investors and strategic agreements with industry leaders such as AstraZeneca, Alexion Pharmaceuticals and Merck, giving us the infrastructure, support and runway to continue to advance our growing pipeline of potential treatments. As a privately-held company with significant financial support, we are also able to invest in cutting-edge automation in drug discovery, manufacturing and production. Our decision to remain private, coupled with strong financial and industry support, creates limitless career opportunities for our employees to take ownership of new clinical development strategies and be part of transformative discoveries.
Moderna is unique among biotech companies in that we are engaged in developing treatments for a wide range of diseases – fostering an entrepreneurial culture that affords our employees the chance to work across a range of therapeutic areas and modalities, all under one roof. Our scientists and “drug hunters” are encouraged to think creatively about new applications for mRNA, and we have the infrastructure to incubate these new discoveries. Some become the basis for forming new venture companies solely focused on one disease area or application, giving our employees another opportunity to lead distinct efforts within the larger organization. These venture teams are part of our ongoing effort to allocate internal resources appropriately so that we have dedicated teams advancing new treatments, while the core team continues to innovate on our foundational mRNA TherapeuticsTM platform.
Because Moderna is a special company, we chose to establish our corporate headquarters in the world’s biotechnology hub of Kendall Square in Cambridge, Mass., with access to world-renowned scientists, research institutions and other leading biopharmaceutical companies. We have two office locations in Kendall – 320 Bent Street, our corporate headquarters and venture incubator space, and 200 Technology Square, which houses our state of the art GMP manufacturing space, R&D, and operations – and an office in Stockholm, Sweden.
Because of our unique mission and vision, working at Moderna provides an unprecedented opportunity to be at the forefront of a truly disruptive and exciting new field of science with the potential to transform medicine.
Moderna delivers a premier location, incredible career growth, and opportunity to contribute to our important mission to advance the field of messenger RNA science and improve treatment for patients in need.
Moderna offers employees a comprehensive package of benefits:
We also offer professional development opportunities through an in-house training center known as Moderna University, which provides access to the area’s scientific and business leaders. We also have an established Voice of the Employee (VOE) team that meets regularly to encourage team-building and camaraderie outside of work, intramural sports teams, employee engagement and other extracurricular team-building opportunities. We also encourage diversity through various programs along with our internal Women’s Network to ensure we are continuing to attract and hire a diverse workforce.

Our Mission and Vision
At Moderna, we are pioneering the development of a new class of drugs made of messenger RNA (mRNA). This novel drug platform builds on the discovery that modified mRNA can direct the body’s cellular machinery to produce nearly any protein of interest, from native proteins to antibodies and other entirely novel protein constructs that can have therapeutic activity inside and outside of cells.
We have a clear mission to propel the field of mRNA science forward and deliver new medicines to patients and a unique vision for how to achieve this mission.

I have been working at Moderna Therapeutics full-time (More than a year)
Amazing talent in science, engineering, and bioinformatics
Committment to innovation in "digital" infrastructure and custom automation
Broad and deep pipeline, with vaccines leading the way
Enough financial resources to solve the challenging scientific and engineering problems
Engaged and very smart executive team
growing fast, but the amount of work is huge, and everyone is working really hard
senior management is learning as they go when it comes to clinical development
Advice to Management
continue to invest in talent
prioritize the pipeline to solve the most critical questions in time
I applied online. I interviewed at Moderna Therapeutics (Cambridge, MA).
BEWARE of Moderna Scientists and pay attention to what they are asking you in your interview. 3 of the 3 senior scientists at Moderna came well-preared with their actual isues they are facing in the lab and posed those question on the white board, expecting me to brainstorm ideas with them. One of the senior scientist actually started taking notes when i started the problem solving with them, but then i realized this is weird and totally out of the line. All 3 of them never asked anything else on personal front, but just kept asking me these tailored science questions that they desperately needed the solution for. Highly incompetent senior scientists both in formulations and process development. From the quality of questions and the tone they asked me those questions, it I am 100% certain that they are not well read, they do not know the basic know-how of tackling process development challenges - they would rather ask people, or worse interviewees, than search pubmed or patents. Very cheap move Moderna - so unimpressed. I don't understand how you value yourself as most innovative start-up company when your senior scientists are so low-class. This low standard of their scientists proves why are they having legal battle with Arbutus, the technology Moderna claimed as its own. Develop your own stuff Moderna, that's what innovation is all about, Stop self-acclamation and over-valuation for no reason. Invest in hiring better scientists with real education.
Significantly bad HR management, the worst I have encountered in a start-up so far. No follow is so typical of HR but Moderna HR is one level higher than that - they told me they'll call me on so and so date, never called. Not once, not twice, but three times! Great job earning free money from over-valued start-up!! SAD, so SAD Moderna!
