Mission: Answer life's most important questions by unraveling the complexity of protein & cell biology
I have been working at Molecular Devices full-time (Less than a year)
The service organization is phenomenal. The leadership on this team is great, and they truly value their employees having a good work/life balance. They expect a lot from their employees, but provide lots of support and are very receptive to new ideas and ways of doing things. Everyone is very friendly and helpful.
The company could do a better job of kreping remote employees in the loop. There have been some changes recently in where different functions are being performed, which has resulted in some layoffs at company headquarters, but it seems like all companies in this field are having changes/layoffs/reorgs. However, I'm impressed with how the changes and layoffs are handled - management is very open about what is happening and why, which is very different than how my previous company handled it.
Advice to Management
Continue to communicate with your employees about the changes happening. I've been here for less than a year and am a part of the service org, so from my perspective things look pretty good, but make sure to give the service org the support and staff that it needs to continue to grow.
I applied through other source. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Molecular Devices (Sunnyvale, CA) in February 2011.
First there was phone interview with the hiring manager. We talked for about an hour. The first in house interview was with 4 software engineers and lasted six hours plus they took me to lunch - more quizzing. A second interview was in front of PC using Visual Studio. A final interview session was held with two other managers and team engineers.
I asked for certain salary. They matched.
