Avoiding Costly Recruiting Mistakes: The Importance Of High Standards

It was my first really expensive mistake but it taught me a valuable lesson. For the first time in my career I was hiring for a VP of engineering. A vital role for an early stage company. I went through a long interview process and spoke with many candidates, none of whom immediately stood out.

    First Annual Sales Enablement Stars

Recently, we put out a call for nominations for a program launched just this year to recognize stand-out members of the sales enablement community. Interest was over-the-top, and I'm excited to share the details on our very first Sales Enablement Stars! Still a relatively new field, no two organiz...

MongoDB – Why Work For Us?

What on Earth is MongoDB? Only the coolest collection of dreamers and doers who share a relentless passion for creativity. We eagerly and expertly pursue new opportunities and markets through innovation and disruption. We have a wicked pioneering spirit--always ready to forge new paths and take smart risks. And we do it all very, very well.

We achieve this by bringing together a distinctive mix of diverse skills, experiences, and backgrounds. We work as a team--creating an open forum for innovative thought, candid discussion, and mutual respect. But in the end, we always put commitment over consesnus, and value excelence in all its wonderful forms.

We build MongoDB and the drivers, and sell software and services to make the lives of developers easier. We also run MongoDB University and sponsor the community, hosting MongoDB World and MongoDB Days all over the globe. With offices across North America, Europe, and Asia, we are close to where you create.

Personal progress is one of our core beliefs, and we have the data to back that up--10% of the company was promoted last year. Join our team and help us accomplish the amazing, again and again. We are fearless in our innovation. Think what we can do for your career.

If you love to build, innovate, work with an amazing team, and bask in the glory of mind-blowing achievement, you've come to the right place. MongoDB is built for that kind of show-stopping success.

The database market is massive, and ripe for the picking--estimated at $36B and growing 9% every year. Meanwhile, software development is radically changing--it's more agile, scalable, and cloud is the new frontier.

The beauty to our brains. Being at the forefront of the MongoDB movement, they are our storytellers creating the opportunity to connect MongoDB with prospects, users, and community members, spreading the word and sharing the wealth.

Ensuring seamless service delivery, our expert success team works closely with our customers on adoption, satisfaction, and renewals, making it easier to get business up and running on MongoDB.

The engine keeping MongoDB humming. The teams behind the curtain, ensuring the business operates efficiently at scale.

MongoDB is committed to creating opportunities for women in technology by changing the ratio. Through a number of initiatives and partnerships, we aim to encourage diversity, deliver education, and provide inspiration to women and the transgender community.

We invite underrpresewnted groups in technology to attend our conferences through the Diversity Scholarship for events. In 2015 we launched a new initiative, the female Innovators Awards, which grants complimentary tickets to exceptional female technologists.

Our goal is to provide opportunities for women and trans coders to network and build relationships at our events. The Women and Trans Coders Lounge is a space for female-identifying coders at MongoDB World featuring lightning talks by female MongoDB engineers, round table discussions, networking and social events.

MongoDB supports Girls Who Code, a national non-profit organization that educates, inspires, and equips high school girls with skills and resources to pursue opportunities in technical fields. Downloading the community edition of MongoDB offers users with the option for the Company to donate $1 to Girls Who Code on their behalf

Our interns are put to the test on work that matters, working on teams and projects that will be used by thousands of developers and organizations across the world.

Our summer program is comprehensive and interactive - there's no such thing as sitting behind a desk all day. We have social outings and an intern speaker series which includes some of the most significant and important people in tech today.

We are able to provide a life experience outside of the professional enviroment, making our interns not only better software engineers, but also more informed citizens of the world.

Sure we have offices and employees located in three of the world's four hemispheres, but what tech giant doesn't? Is that really a differentiator anymore?

At MongoDB it's all about expansion. Since founded in 2007, we have opened 20 office locations worldwide, and that number will continue to increase for three key reasons:

Our global presence is massive

The MongoDB Community has had at least one registration from every single country in the world.

Our customer base is impressive

With more than half of the Fortune 100 relying on our software, we have to be everywhere they are.

We're hiring like crazy

Supporting our users and customers takes a lot of manpower, as does tapping into new markets. We need teams in every corner of the earth to help us do our thing, and do it well.

I have been working at MongoDB full-time (More than 3 years)

MongoDB offers a challenging job in a growing marketing. I am surrounded by super bright, ambitious people. It's very exciting to be working at a technology disrupter. People are fun and good humored. Office is gorgeous and we get all sorts of great benefits such as lunches 2x a week, unlimited snacks, a constant parade of treats "just because", department retreats, discounts to gyms, etc. The real benefit is the fun, interesting work. Management and senior execs are supportive and care about employees. No job is perfect but can't think of a better place.

You have to set your own limits as far as work/life balance. Managers will respect boundaries, but you have to know when to recharge. No one is going to tell you.

I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at MongoDB.

Multiple steps - Soft skills, Technical skills, combined Soft and technical skills, challenge - two 15 minute presentations on something you know and something you don't know. Phone technical Interviewer came off as knowing arrogant right off the bat with all his knowledge. This one bad apple may turn away some very qualified candidates. All the interviews with the people that had soft skills were great. The one technical interview was the worst ever.

    Interview Questions

    • Unorthodox - asked questions about Oracle but used SQL Server terminology. Asked technical questions that he didn't know the answer to. Too bad they don't screen their interviewers.   Answer Question
