Best Places to Work: 2015 (#17)
From our family to yours, we hope you had a happy holiday and New Year!
Whether it was with a swanky party, a White Elephant gift exchange, or a team lunch, we took our time to celebrate the holidays together around the world at MongoDB.
We also got creative when it came to giving back to our communities. Take a look at just some of the ways our teams celebrated the season of giving in our recent blog post below.
We have amazing female leaders who inspire us each and every day at MongoDB. Thank you Mogul for naming us one of the Top 1,000 Companies with the Strongest Female Leaders in 2018!
What on Earth is MongoDB? A diverse collection of dreamers and doers who share a relentless passion for creativity. We eagerly and expertly pursue new opportunities and markets through innovation and disruption. We have a wicked pioneering spirit--always ready to forge new paths and take smart risks. And we do it all very, very well.
We achieve this by bringing together a distinctive mix of diverse skills, experiences, and backgrounds. We work as a team--creating an open forum for innovative thought, candid discussion, and mutual respect. But in the end, we always put commitment over consensus, and value excellence in all its wonderful forms.
We build MongoDB and the drivers and sell software and services to make the lives of developers easier. We also run MongoDB University and sponsor the community, hosting MongoDB World and MongoDB Days all over the globe. With offices across North America, Europe, and Asia, we are close to where you create.
Personal progress is one of our core beliefs, and we have the data to back that up--10% of the company was promoted last year. Join our team and help us accomplish the amazing, again and again. We are fearless in our innovation. Think what we can do for your career.

MongoDB is committed to creating opportunities for women in technology by changing the ratio. Through a number of initiatives and partnerships, we aim to encourage diversity, deliver education, and provide inspiration to women and the transgender community.
We invite underrepresented groups in technology to attend our conferences through the Diversity Scholarship for events.
Our goal is to provide opportunities for women and transcoders to network and build relationships at our events. The Women and Trans Coders Lounge is a space for female-identifying coders at MongoDB World featuring lightning talks by female MongoDB engineers, roundtable discussions, networking and social events.
We work with teachers throughout the summer to help them learn and understand programming languages and other skills to ultimately take back to their students come the fall.
Our interns are put to the test on work that matters, working on teams and projects that will be used by thousands of developers and organizations across the world.
Our summer program is comprehensive and interactive - there's no such thing as sitting behind a desk all day. We have social outings and an intern speaker series which includes some of the most significant and important people in tech today.
We are able to provide a life experience outside of the professional environment, making our interns not only better software engineers but also more informed citizens of the world.

Sure we have offices and employees located in three of the world's four hemispheres, but what tech giant doesn't? Is that really a differentiator anymore?
At MongoDB, it's all about expansion. Since founded in 2007, we have opened 20 office locations worldwide, and that number will continue to increase for three key reasons:
Our global presence is massive
The MongoDB Community has had at least one registration from every single country in the world.
Our customer base is impressive
With more than half of the Fortune 100 rely on our software, we have to be everywhere they are.
We're hiring like crazy
Supporting our users and customers takes a lot of manpower, as does tapping into new markets. We need teams in every corner of the earth to help us do our thing, and do it well.
I have been working at MongoDB full-time (Less than a year)
+ Puts hiring the best and developing employees as the top priority.
+ Set vision for growth and outlined objectives to get there- strong follow through
+ Team culture- collaborative, fun, lots of team extra-curricular activities
+ Office benefits: catered lunches 2x a week, coldbrew on tap, fully stocked kitchen with snacks, fruit, beverages.
+ tons of resources to further develop your skills.
+ No real hierarchy culture, very lateral. CEO active in conversations with all levels. no politics, just shared efforts towards growth.
- Still in a "selling" mentality for interviewing. At one point as an early start up, it was important to really share and sell our company brand/opportunity. Now we are established, people know our company, the value add with the technology being the leader in the industry, so we should put more time into deep dive vetting rather than selling.
Advice to Management
Keep at it. So impressed with the vision and execution towards further growth. Love being on this rocket-ship.
I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at MongoDB (New York, NY) in October 2018.
Interview process was an initial phone interview with recruiter, then a phone/coderpad tech interview, and finally an onsite with three tech interviews. My interviews, as well as the onsite lunch with intern-to-full-time converts, were all very enjoyable, and I was happy to be able to talk with several female engineers which was great given how usually the only women I interact with during a company's recruiting process is the recruiter herself. The people were fun and easy to talk to, the NY office was amazing, and you could really see the company's open and easy-going atmosphere. During one of my onsite interviews, when I told my interviewer that I had previously worked through a nearly identical version of the Two Sum problem he gave me, he didn't seem bothered and was happy to modify it to be slightly more challenging (and ultimately more interesting). Overall a wonderful experience and company.
