Engage, Inspire and Grow in Motorola Solutions’ Internship Program

On any given day, every moment matters to someone, somewhere. And every moment, Motorola Solutions’ innovations, products and services play essential roles in people’s lives. 

Motorola Solutions’ award-winning student internship program is designed with you in mind. It all starts with our belief that the next big idea can come from anyone, anywhere at any time.  

Our goal is to help you develop and prepare for life after school through hands-on experience with real problems that require real solutions. Interns contribute to projects and tasks that make an impact, participate in a robust mentorship program, grow through professional development activities and attend networking events. From collaborating with our senior leaders to volunteer opportunities, we want you to grow during your internship in ways you never expected.

We’re looking for full-time students from various academic backgrounds who are interested in working across all business functions, enrolled in post-secondary degree programs and will return to school after the 12-week summer program.

Motorola Solutions Foundation

Originally founded in 1953, the Motorola Solutions Foundation is the charitable and philanthropic arm of Motorola Solutions. With employees located around the globe, Motorola Solutions seeks to benefit the communities where it operates. The company achieves this by making strategic grants, forging strong community partnerships and fostering innovation. 

Awarding over $9.5 million in grants in 2018, which supported more than 2 million students and first responders affiliated with about 250 organizations in 33 countries, our funding and involvement goes beyond helping those in law enforcement. The foundation also supports organizations that represent veterans, professional and volunteer fire service personnel, EMS professionals and disaster response professionals. 

In particular, the foundation focuses on: 

  • Education – Supporting programs that advance science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, preparing our next generation of innovators 
  • Public safety – Making our communities safer by using our leadership in public safety innovation to provide resources to first responders and the communities they serve 
  • Disaster relief – Partnering with humanitarian organizations to provide relief to disaster victims and providing vital support to emergency workers who are at the front lines of disaster relief 
  • Employee giving – Providing our employees with matching programs in the United States and globally

    I applied online. The process took 2+ months. I interviewed at Motorola Solutions.


    The entire process from application to hire took about two months (with a one week delay). Once selected (which took about a week after initial application in my case) I got an email to do a phone interview. It was a two phase interview (background screening then technical). The background screening was 30 minutes and included typical interview type questions such as "what is your greatest strength", but it also included VERY simple coding type questions (as a sanity check). The background screening actually included a couple of brainteasers as well (to assess communication and critical thinking skills). Then the second part of the phone interview was with someone else. Surprisingly, this was also mostly nontechnical and included many of the same background questions, but with general "academic" OOP questions thrown in (like "explain polymorphism"). I got a call from a recruiter about a week after the phone interview asking me to come in for the full in-person interview. This interview was a full day and included lunch. It started and ended with the hiring manager who is very warm and made me feel comfortable and excited to be there. The interview was a series of (give or take) one hour interviews. Each interview was a mixture of background and technical questions. There were no ridiculously hard Google-style questions to stress about, just one brainteaser question again to gauge communication and problem solving skills. Everyone was very nice and very engaging, and they all made me feel like I belong there. This is a job for people who care and take pride in what they do, and they ARE looking for that genuine quality so don't try to fake it. This is a company that takes great pride in all aspects of quality as our mission is to create products that save lives. Finally, a few days after the interview I got the offer via call. There is a thorough background check and so it took another couple weeks before I started working. Overall, it was very smooth and thorough.
