Mission: We are quality people providing quality products and service through quality delivery systems.
Motto: We place members first.
Vision: Help our members achieve their financial dreams.
Mountain America Credit Union first opened its doors in the 1930s with a commitment to guiding our members to achieve their financial dreams.
Today, our essence—guidance—remains the focal point of our identity. It’s a purpose-driven identity to ensure that everything we do moves you safely along your journey.
Call it a path, a trail, or simply a way through. Sometimes it's arrow straight. Other times it has unexpected twists and turns that require knowledge of the road ahead. From wherever you are to where you see yourself going, there is a clear way forward. It's life's financial journey, and we're here to guide you every step of the way.
As your financial partner, we'll help outfit you with the tools for the journey ahead—like convenient, flexible products and services designed around how you really live, as well as sound, timely advice to help steer you around any obstacles.
People helping people
Mountain America has a strong commitment to the communities where our members live, work and play. We support hundreds of non-profit organizations. Here are just a few ways we love to give back:
Fox 13 Dream Team—Fifteen-year-old Kallie is battling aggressive cancer. We partnered with Fox 13 to help her check some dreams off her bucket list. Kallie is one of several Dream Team recipients.
Pass It Along—Every year, we partner with the Utah Jazz to support local charities. See video highlights and nominate a charity.
PTA Grants—Mountain America offers grants to teachers and PTAs for school supplies or projects supporting K-12 classrooms. In 2018, our grants provided funds for wobble chairs, science fairs, book corners, ukuleles and more.
Each year, we donate money to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation for every three-pointer scored by the Utah Jazz and Salt Lake City Stars. For the 2018 season, this added up to $72,600. We have similar sponsorships with BYU Athletics to support the American Red Cross and with the Boise State Broncos to benefit St. Luke’s Health Foundation.
Every year, we select two charities to support through employee events and fundraisers.
We have donated to organizations such as:
Can You See Yourself Here?
Move beyond a job with crazy hours and an unpredictable schedule. Make a difference in peoples’ lives and in the community. Choose a career that will guide you forward!
Working at Mountain America
Deliver quality customer service in a motivated, team-oriented environment. We have outstanding career opportunities for enthusiastic, career-minded professionals.
As one of Utah’s premier employers, Mountain America Credit Union is often named as one of Utah and Idaho’s Best Places to Work. We have also been recognized for our community and charitable involvement. We are a growing organization with strong membership and asset growth and more than 90 branches in Arizona, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico and Utah.
Outstanding employee experiences
We invest in our employees and their continued success by providing plenty of opportunities for growth:
Matching 401(k) retirement plan
Our 401(k) includes a matching benefit that begins the first day you sign up for the program.
Paid holidays and paid time off
We offer eleven paid holidays per year with a generous amount of paid time off (PTO) for both full-time and part-time employees. The amount of PTO increases based on tenure.
We offer educational assistance for all employees who have completed at least six months of service and whose job performance meets expectations.
Business casual day
Fridays are casual days, and each employee receives a yearly allowance to purchase Mountain America business casual wear.
We are committed to our employees' personal growth and professional skills development. We focus on preparing our employees for new and different positions, challenges and opportunities within the credit union through training and development courses in Mountain America University.
Employee assistance program
All employees have access to the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), which promotes a healthy work/life balance. This free and confidential program provides employees and their dependents the opportunity to work with counselors to solve personal and legal issues 24/7.
Mountain America covers 83% of full-time employees' medical costs.* Employees can choose from several medical benefit plan options. The employee premium cost on the plan options is minimal.
All employees have access to our cafeteria plan (flexible spending account). Through this reimbursement plan, employees can set aside pre-tax payroll dollars to help cover the costs of dependent care and certain out-of-pocket medical expenses. A health savings account (HSA) that includes a company contribution is available with some medical plans.
All employees have access to dental insurance with the majority of the cost paid by Mountain America and minimal employee cost.
All employees have access to vision insurance with minimal employee cost.
For full-time employees, short-term disability paid leave accrues each pay period, based on length of service.
The credit union provides full-time employees with long-term disability coverage at no cost.
Paid group life insurance
Full-time employees receive a competitive group life insurance plan benefit. Full-time employees also have the opportunity to purchase supplemental life insurance at reasonable rates.
When you join the Mountain America family, you become part of an organization that supports financial literacy, improving the lives of countless people in our communities. We provide free financial education through:
PTA sponsorships—Our certified financial education instructors help students learn how to manage their finances after graduation. Through fun games and activities, we teach kids how to budget, use credit wisely and get out of college without drowning in debt.
Financial success events, seminars and webinars—At events like the Kids’ Cash Fair and Mountain America Night at the Aquarium, we educate adults and children about money management, debt repayment, mortgages, retirement and more.
Counseling and online resources—We partner with GreenPath Financial Wellness to provide free counseling, online courses and other tools to help guide members out of debt, foreclosure, bankruptcy, credit challenges and more.
I have been working at Mountain America Credit Union full-time (Less than a year)
If you live in Utah, you've heard of Mountain America, but you maybe haven't thought of working at Mountain America. Well, I'm here to tell you that you should. MACU's culture is not one to flaunt itself like so many others, yet it's as strong of a culture as you can find. Trust, respect and autonomy are all things that will be given to you from day one. The benefits here easily rival any organization in the valley. Medical costs are minimal, the 401k match is super strong, work/life balance is a legitimate thing here that you won't be guilt tripped for if you try to take advantage of it.
I'd like to see the PTO accrual refreshed and a paternity leave plan put into place. Several processes are a tad bit over-complicated, which I understand as a financial institution, however, it would be nice to see things simplified.
Advice to Management
Keep showing appreciation towards your employees.
I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Mountain America Credit Union (Salt Lake City, UT) in October 2017.
Applied online got back to me within two weeks, scheduled my first interview it went well. They called and said the branch manager wanted to talk to me and he asked really personal questions then he offered me the job in the interview, compensation and all.
