We're changing the way people think about work.
"Culture" as it relates to organizations has quickly become a buzz word. But there's a huge difference between companies who offer perks and companies who offer quality of life.
N2 is consistently recognized by big names like Fortune, Inc., and Entrepreneur for our positive company culture and extraordinary growth, but we didn't start out in the news. It all started quite humbly, when our founders, Duane and Earl, dreamed of building a company where success in the workplace didn't compete with success at home. They found the perfect opportunity in an untapped market: neighborhood publications.
To date, N2 has more than 900 publications throughout the nation. That means residents in 900+ communities are living a more connected life, advertisers in 900 communities are achieving more long-term business with the customers they want, and our N2 sales professionals in 900 communities are experiencing a fuller, freer personal and professional lifestyle.
When you meet someone, you can often learn what's most important to them within the first few minutes. Well, when you meet N2, you'll learn very quickly about our passion for our culture. We spend a ton of energy talking about how work shouldn't be your most important thing; that should be your loved ones, and your work should be second-in-command to them.
That may sound crazy to some, but for us, we're a company centered on people -- from our product to our business model -- and we couldn't do what we do well if we didn't treat our team right. But our focus on creating and maintaining a positive culture isn't because doing so will bring financial gain. We truly care about our people, and our greatest success as a company is providing them the unique opportunity to love both their work and their life outside of work.
Trey - Area Director in FL
I love working with N2 because it has become a family business. My wife actually does ad management for about 4-6 publications throughout the U.S., and that gives us the opportunity to work from home and raise our daughter from home. We don't have to worry about daycare. And that has really helped her development. She’s really ahead of the game. Her pediatrician is always impressed. A true part of that is us being at home.
Mike - Area Director in PA
I started with N2 pretty far behind the 8 ball. I was $189,000 in personal debt. This was the only thing short of bankruptcy that I could think of that could get my family out of the situation I had put us in. N2 has completely revolutionized my life. Now, we’re debt free. We have our house paid off as well. In my life, it’s no longer about the car that I drive or the house that I live in or the vacation I go on. It’s really about who I can bless.
Katie - Sales Director in LA
When people here tell you that their priorities are God, family, then work, they actually mean it. They want you to stop when it’s quitting time and be with your family. I’m a carpool mom, so every day at 3 o’clock, I’m in the carpool line. And your commissions aren’t based on quotas or what you did last year. I make what I work for. I like that I can go out and sell advertisements for a product I’m passionate about, and my sales directly affect my check.

Domenique - Legal Department
N2 operates like one big happy family... really! From Day One, I felt welcomed and included. Everyone here genuinely cares about each other. That’s part of what makes our culture so great! When I applied to N2, I did my research. I stalked their Facebook page and their other social media pages and I knew I needed to be a part of N2! I’m thankful for an amazing company and for each and every person here at N2. I can't imagine a better place to work.
Clem - Print Department
I was originally born in Ghana, Africa. I just decided to come and build on the dream of America. I didn't have any experience in printing. I see N2 to be a place of growth and a place of learning. At N2, I'm the last person to touch the publications. I proof all the magazines in order to meet the standards that residents expect. Being the last stage, the work I put in will be a reflection of the company. For N2 to put so much trust in my hands, I deem it a great honor and a great privilege.
Karen - Technology Department
I like working with people like me. Sounds conceited, but let me elaborate. If you like to work and be around positive, hardworking, fun-loving people, then this is the place for you. The people I get the pleasure of working with love life and the challenges that come with it. N2 people are driven: not in that corporate-driven way, but driven to produce exceptional work and become extraordinary people for our teams and communities. I am beyond blessed to be a part of this company!
The N2 Home Office can be summed up in one word: Electric. Anyone who walks through our doors can sense the excitement and energy.
For all our excitement, though, we make sure to keep things casual, too. Headquartered on the coast in Wilmington, NC, the casual lifestyle of beach-town living carries over into our workplace. It’s not uncommon to see team members and the C-Suite execs discussing strategy over a game of ping pong, sporting a pair of board shorts and flip-flops.
But don’t let the casual nature of N2 fool you. Within each department, there’s a vast array of talented personalities collectively collaborating for a common purpose. This thriving spirit of teamwork allows us to produce hundreds of unique, community-based, individualized, and hyper-local publications each month in our invigorating and fast-paced office.
N2 is about much more than just producing awesome publications, though. We do love our product, but we love our people more. They are our most valuable asset. Our founders intentionally crafted a company culture that ensures a fun and healthy environment for everyone who works here: one that values personal responsibility, unity, and mutual respect for one another. N2 provides perks to promote a healthy work-life balance, including the opportunity to work remotely, have flexible hours, and enjoy lots of paid time off each year.
All of these things make the N2 Home Office a truly remarkable place to be. If you can see yourself as part of our Home Office team, click here.
People are often curious how a print media company is not only alive but thriving in the digital age. The answer is simple: our people make a product that cannot be beat.
We create custom publications that transform places people live into places people love. Our publications give members of exclusive communities the opportunity to learn about their neighbors by reading their stories and seeing photos that are important to them.
The result: quality publications that echo the voice of the neighborhood and reflect the community itself. Throughout the nation, communities who receive an N2 publication find that they know more about their neighbors and feel connected to them in ways that are meaningful and life changing.
I have been working at N2 Publishing full-time (More than 5 years)
When I moved to Maryland we bought a home in a subdivision that had a sign that said "Where Life Imitates Vacation". Because we were moving to a new area I decided to get out of the corporate rat race and work for myself. At the time there were only 30 magazines in the US. So in July 2010 I started ramping up my own magazine. I did not know a soul here so I put my feet to the pavement and met some really wonderful business owners who took a chance and trusted me to do what I promised. They are still advertising and have added other publications.
Working with N2 you set your own schedule so traveling or working around kids schedules is easy. That does not mean you don't work that means you work around it. I love people so this job is perfect for me. Meeting residents and business owners is fun for me. Introducing them has been lucrative for me. Fun and a nice paycheck is win win in my book. As an AD you wear many hats in my business and that suits me. The support from N2 and the continual education is terrific. Some of my closest friends are found in my N2 family!
N2 is a relatively new company so there is always change. If you have ever worked for a stagnated company you realize this is really a positive. It is always a change for the better and the leadership listens to you and does what is best for all. If you are not a self starter this will be hard for you. You can't sit home and expect this to be successful. Balance in my life was what I was looking for and this setting allows for that.
Advice to Management
The truth is I think it is perfect just like it is! Sure there are issues but that is all business. I find that they jump on the issues and solve them. I will be 80 years old and still out selling advertising and completing deadlines!
I love what I do!
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at N2 Publishing (Phoenix, AZ).
Apparently, this company loves the Bait and Switch tactic.
They "bait" you with the opportunity of getting hired, of getting a job.
Then, they "switch" it by trying to sell you a franchise.
I realized this as soon as I got the interview and quickly saw the videos:
1) You won't get paid for months.
2) Will have to pay for your own training.
3) Might not get published if you don't get enough contracts.
Basically, you work for free for months.
If you don't succeed, they keep the contracts for themselves or resell them to other printing companies.
But this tactic is in itself cruel, as it should be geared towards investors who are seeking for a franchise, not for people who are looking for an actual, paying job.
We were not a fit as I refuse to work with liars.
