The online Substitute portal is quite easy to use and is frequently updated.
There is little contact between you and anyone else as a substitute teacher, which is somewhat of a pro, however can be difficult when in need of guidance and assistance. Also, the sub plans vary drastically between teachers, some being WONDERFUL! Some being "here's three coloring worksheet and 25 kindergarteners to keep busy for 8 hrs". I believe there needs to be a better system of accountability for teacher's sub plans.
Advice to Management
Perhaps having a resource to the substitute teacher after the one day of training.
I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Nacogdoches ISD.
There is no interview process. Only apply with resume and references, pass a background check, and then sign up for the training day. And then, show up. And training day was a small inservice of 20ish people, 3 or 4 Human Resources employees talked with us through the long training day.
