I worked at Nassau Community College part-time (More than a year)
-lots of free study/down time
-Great opportunity to learn about professors and their life experiences
-free food brought by the professors or from working in school conferences
-dealing with "interesting" students/callers; NCC attracts weird people who may call more than once on a settled request
-internal conflicts reaching uncomfortable levels of tension; budget planning can be divisive at times
-cold, uninsulated floors; they freeze your feet in the winter
Advice to Management
Continue to care for the students and keep letting the professors talk in the waiting area. The experiences of the professors encourage the students.
I applied online. The process took 3+ months. I interviewed at Nassau Community College in June 2015.
Very poor interview experience. They had me lined up with all the other interview candidates and called me into a hot room with no air conditioning during the summer. I felt like a number and got the impression that they did not value my background or experience. They also asked a number of inappropriate questions and told me I would have to work all sorts of odd hours. Not at all what I expected. Then they made me an offer for an entirely different position, that paid less and that I had no interest in.
