They prefer to hire mostly full time, which is great for people needing the work. The pay is competitive, and there is some benefits. PTO, paid time off, is always adding up. Paid birthdays whether you work that day or not, so if you work to just birthday pay and normal hourly pay. General worker starts out at $10.25 an hour. Assistant department manager makes $12.00 an hour. Department manager makes $15.00 an hour. Every 12 months you get a personal review for a raise. If you want to move up fast, spend some time after or before you clock in to learn about the computer systems. Knowing how to use the complex software for ordering and receiving will have you at a store manage position in under 10 months, seriously. Team work, team work, team work, doesn't matter what department you're in. It's all team work. From day one you'll constantly learning about nutrition and it's really improved my life just by working there. Great customer service means most customers will be happy every time they come into the store.
The store is in constant need of basic supplies, toilet paper, paper towels, and cleaner; all that stuff is ordered through the home office and if the home office doesn't think you need something then they will cut it out of the order. Which leads to the store manager having to go and buy it with their own money and they don't get reimbursed for it. A secret between two people is actually known by everyone but no one talks about it. It's hard to get fired. Which may be a plus for the crappy workers they are really lazy. It's a negative to the hard workers because they can't get a better team member. They have some crazy rule that management and general workers can't be friends outside of work. Just don't let it be known because it could keep either one from moving up at that store.
Advice to Management
Restructuring of Home Office is a major need but be patient, you'll figure out how to navigate the communication. When you move up and get a raise, more work and responsible comes with it. If a store manager is sitting on their butt 80% of the time then they aren't being a store manage. They need to be out on the floor 80% of the time. Same goes with department managers. Work smart, not hard. Think as you do and always try to improve on yourself and help others improve.
