I have been working at New Engen full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

At the beginning of the rise of covid, the company reacted quickly, in suit with the actions of bigger Seattle-based companies, to make a plan for everyone to work from home. Our people made it look easy - everyone took to the change with grace and flexibility. These are tough times and especially challenging for some, and it really matters to have supportive managers and colleagues to get through this together. I'm totally proud of how our team has continued to perform and deliver as a whole, even while making the space and flex for those who need it.

These times have also highlighted how agile of a company and team we are. Business has been rocky like it is everywhere, but we've been able to bend and adjust to meet that. Furloughed employees were all brought back and we're on a good track to keep it that way if we continue to focus on how we can serve the market.

I love the people I work with and the culture we have that encourages (and when at our best, empowers) individuals to speak up and contribute at all levels. We have tough conversations with one another that allow us to grow and improve, and we're a better company now than we were a year ago. My 5 stars is not because the company is perfect, but because with a learning mindset and desire to get better we are in a special position to really shape the company into its potential, both business-wise and people-, culture-, community-wise.

Our CEO, while sometimes says the wrong thing, or his communication/delivery is not strategized, genuinely cares and he puts a lot of effort into where it actually matters: making informed decisions by listening and collecting input and engaging in debate.

    Cons

Contrary to some other comments, the company did not have what I would call *massive* investment funding for a product startup, based on my experience in tech startup land. New Engen is also still young; there isn't a fat endowment like an Amazon or Starbucks. One result is programs and career development systems and other important initiatives are bootstrapped and still in development, and sometimes important investments, the right investments, in things like DE&I programs as an example, get lost or sidelined due to focus on the business model. Recent focus on re-establishing these commitments is the right thing, and there's more to do.

    Advice to Management

If you are at any level of this company, your voice and perspective matters. So keep speaking up and helping to build this company. And to senior leaders, remember and empower that in your teams.

Inside New Engen's new digs: Seattle marketing startup doubles office space amidst rapid growth

New Engen spent more than two years in the shadows honing its digital marketing platforms, before pulling back the curtain on its plans earlier this year. Now the Seattle startup, which has already raised close to $11 million, has opened the doors on a new office space for its growing workforce.
