    Positive Outlook

I have been working at New Mexico Department of Corrections full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

As an instructor I had a bit more autonomy in teaching that I expected. Benefits are not bad. Wages are not bad for an Instructor but surprisingly low for support staff, including Correctional Officers.

    Cons

It seems that they are always looking for someone to collaborate with inmates. I could live with the metal detectors, going through my belongings, but they take delight in listening in on your conversations and if an inmate says something about you they might give more weight to what they say than what you have to say. This creates an atmosphere of paranoia, not from inmate attacks, but from the thought police.

    Advice to Management

You are not helping what is an inherently dangerous situation.
