I have been working at Newport News Shipbuilding full-time
Company is very large with lots of different jobs available.
Seems it is hard to move up via promotions as compared to Norfolk Naval which has automatic pay increases.
I applied online. I interviewed at Newport News Shipbuilding (Newport News, VA) in August 2017.
I applied in early July 2017. I was not contacted for an interview until early August. Their job descriptions are vague so you are not sure which area you will be provided administrative support in. I had a phone screen with the recruiter, then later that day I was called to schedule an interview. You have to arrive early for the interview. I filled out all this paperwork while waiting for the interview. Then one of the jnterviewers came to pick me up for the interview. We walked a very long way to get to the building & I was wearing heels & a dress on a hot summer day. I was asked twice what I knew about the company. One of interviewers spoke the most the other seemed not interested. I thought I gave good answers but when he shook my hand afterwards he said thank you for your interest. That last line seemed like I wasn't getting the job. Reflecting on the interview it there were some clues that maybe I was interviewing for a job that was already promised to someone else which is terrible considering I wasted a day off work for the interview. I was there for 3 hours. Considering it is now 3 weeks later I assume I didn't get the job even though the recruiter told me they email you if you didn't get the job.
