Nielsen-Kellerman has been in business for more than 40 years, and has focused relentlessly on meeting the specialized measurement needs of demanding outdoor customers. Olympic athletes, firefighters, and military professionals are just some of the NK customers who rely on our products for accuracy and durability. Delivering anything less than the highest level of quality is not an option. Whatever the niche, we know our customers won't forgive us for letting them down, and will tell their friends what they think of us, good or bad.
Innovative US Manufacturer
NK began business in an upstate New York basement, and we remain committed to US manufacturing to this day. Now located in Boothwyn, PA, we design here in the US, we source all the parts we can in the US, and we build here in the US. We continuously improve our product, processes, flow, inventory management and people to stay cost-competitive and ensure we can deliver what our customers need when they need it.
We strive to conduct our business in a sustainable manner and minimize harm to the environment by actively implementing company-wide plans to conserve energy, reduce waste, and recycle. We conduct life-cycle analysis of shipping impact to determine the most effective packaging for each product and minimize "shipping air." We use recycled products in packaging where the benefits are clear.
Our products are designed and engineered to give our customers accurate and reliable measurements. All sales literature and specifications are honest and complete. We stand behind our brands. See for yourself! Our company blog documents not only customer stories and deals, but a behind-the-scenes view of the people and production processes that drive NK. We want you to get to know us - we've got nothing to hide!
NK is a vertically integrated company. We design, manufacture, market, sell, and service all our products. We treat our manufacturing operation as an asset, not a liability and we use this asset to ensure the quality and performance of our products. We're close to our customers, and we use that knowledge to design better products. Every new product team has representatives from sales, service, design and production working together every step of the process to produce a result far better than each department working alone could ever create.
NK approaches every development challenge with a process designed to first create a complete understanding of our customers' needs, including target product value. We then methodically research every technical challenge and identify and test solutions. Finally, we leverage our years of experience and knowledge in designing waterproof, rugged, accurate and easy-to-use products to provide our customers with an innovative solution others have failed to provide. Our goal is a product that is so obviously "right for its job" that the end result seems simple.
We never rest on our achievements. Every single person comes in every day committed to finding at least one way to make our jobs, products and service better. We make dozens of improvements large and small every day. We're grateful for the opportunity, and we have fun!

I have been working at Nielsen-Kellerman full-time (Less than a year)
Small company atmosphere
Great team focused work environment
Challenging and rewarding work
Culture that values everyone
Career advancement opportunities are somewhat limited because it is a small company. But the company is growing so with patience, opportunities will probably occur.
Advice to Management
Leading by example, expecting everyone to do their best, recognition of accomplishments and mutual respect by all are (IMHO) the cornerstones of a successful organization. I think the culture at NK embodies these qualities and is a big part of the reason for it's success. Advice: Sustain and maintain .
I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Nielsen-Kellerman (Boothwyn, PA) in June 2013.
After applying for this position through LinkedIn, I was contacted several days later to schedule an interview with the resident Senior Software Engineer. This interview was straight forward; a few behavioral question about career goals/ resume details and then technical trivia questions. These questions were fairly high level and I was able to answer them all successfully to some degree. The interviewer was very pleasant and astute, knowing what could be expected of someone with my experience level.
Hours after the interview, the recruiter emailed me and told me they would like me to come in for an interview. She also wanted more info on relocation needs and salary expectations. I replied, accepting the interview. I also gave her my salary expectiations, saying that I was flexible.
It was a week before I heard anythng back. She replied that they had "unexpectedly" hired an existing contarctor 5 days previous and wished me luck in my job search. Needless to say, I thought this was very unprofessional, not somuch for canceling an interview, but moreso for leaving me hanging while they hired someone at almost the exact point they offered it to me, and also for not even having the heart in the email to say they wouldn't be pursing me as a candidate (this was only implied by the extraneous hiring story and thanking me for my time).
