Organizing a national Community Giveback Week

Every year, Nordic takes time off from improving healthcare to gives back to the local communities in which we live and work. We organize service projects across the country where employees donate their day to a variety of non-profit organizations. It's grown from a single day in Madison to an entire week of volunteer efforts across the country. Employees choose where to serve and work together to make our communities a better place to live and work.

Donating our expertise

We work with non-profit organizations in the areas of health and wellness to match our employees with initiatives that benefit from our healthcare and health IT expertise. For example, we worked alongside the HungerCare Coalition to promote the treatment of food insecurity as medical issue which could be tracked in electronic health records. We engaged the coalition to help with strategy and offer insight into productive approaches to working with health organizations.

Sponsoring select organizations whose goals align with ours

We sponsor a limited number of local and national organizations whose goals align with improving preventative health (with a specific focus on hunger, education, and empowerment) and the continual improvement of the healthcare IT industry. Professional development is a main focus at Nordic. We understand that everyone has different goals and aspirations, so employees work directly with their managers to develop their own professional development plan. 

In April of 2016, Nordic U was launched to provide our employees continued development not only in work but in their personal lives as well. Some courses provided through Nordic U are, 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, Getting Things Done - productivity tips and tricks, Basic Project Management Skills, Receiving Feedback, Assuming the Best in Others, Being Well in the Workplace, and specific industry training among many others.

Furthermore, Nordic developed a formal training program for our consultants who are interested in gaining experience working in one of our business lines, Affiliate Solutions. The leaders of our Affiliate team hold periodic training sessions in our home office to teach our consultants how to become leaders when implementing or extending an EHR for clients and their affiliates/merged/acquired organizations.

    Application

    I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Nordic Consulting Partners (Madison, WI) in October 2015.

    Interview

    I was referred by a friend who loved Nordic. I did a short application online (just submitted a resume), was contacted for a phone interview with HR to tell me more about the role, my pay expectations, and background. Then I came in for an in-person panel interview with an Account Director, supervisor, and two current AMs. They asked a few standard situational questions and the atmosphere was light and upbeat.
    I recommend reading about their maxims beforehand and being yourself during the interview process.
