I worked at Norristown Area School District full-time (More than 10 years)
The administration attempts to keep all programs in place and employment stable. No layoffs or strikes in 18 years! Business administrator is awesome. Much emphasis on student support, best practices, and when I left, the beginnings of statistical analysis for evaluation of effects.
Mostly friendly staff, fairly collegial atmosphere in most of the schools.
Facilities old and poorly maintained. Very needy student population (may be considered a pro), class sizes increasing. Many administrative decisions made for political effect rather than educational effect, with appropriate results. small substitute pool, substitute staffing is erratic.
Advice to Management
Objectively evaluate program and initiatives' effect in decision-making. A bit too much effort made at solving non-problems, and a bit too little effort made in addressing true needs.
