Top CEOs: 2017 (#81)
Our Santa Barbara office celebrated it’s 30th Anniversary and Community Rebuild by incorporating an element of giving back to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, SB County Fire Department, The Bucket Brigade, All Saints-by-the-Sea, Montecito Recovery Fund, and the Montecito Center. Each organization provided exemplary service to the community during the Thomas Fire and 1/9 Mudslide and received a $5,000 donation. Thank you for all of your efforts & celebrating with us!
What better way to work on team building skills in the workplace than dragon boat racing! Northern Trust had 2 boats in the competitive Arizona Dragon Boat Festival. The race required rhythm, discipline & focus to get to the finish line & one of our teams came in 3rd place!
Why Northern Trust? We are a leading global financial institution and employer. We are named one of the World’s Most Admired Companies for the tenth consecutive year. Northern Trust is also named one of America's Best Large Employers, One of the World's Most Ethical Companies, and one of the best banks in America.
Our core principles — service, expertise, and integrity — have remained constant for over 128 years. Since our doors opened in 1889, we have evolved into a multi-faceted global financial services provider.
As of December 31, 2017, Northern Trust Corporation had:
FOSTERING AN INCLUSIVE WORKPLACE
We ensure our policies guide our behaviors to create and maintain a discrimination-free workplace. Northern Trust supports total diversity: gender, age, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicity, physical disabilities, and marital/family status, among others.
Northern Trust has been recognized as a top employer from: Working Mother magazine, Black Enterprise magazine, Diversity Edge magazine, Diversity MBA magazine, Latina Style magazine, National Association of Female Executives, and The Corporate Equality Index to name a few.
Through the years, Northern Trust has evolved into an inclusive organization that not only welcomes, but thrives on, different viewpoints and backgrounds. Since the 1980s, Northern Trust has supported a variety of leadership groups called Business Resource Councils including groups focused on Asian, Black, Latino, and LGBT professionals. In 1998, 15 years before the federal government recognized same-sex marriage, Northern Trust became the second bank in the U.S. to offer employees domestic partner benefits for both same-sex and opposite-sex couples—another testament to our penchant for trailblazing and inclusivity. The bank formalized a national LGBT and Non-Traditional Family Practice in 2010 to meet their financial needs.
A RESPONSIBLE CORPORATE CITIZEN
From the very beginning, Northern Trust has been more than simply a financial institution; we have been an active member of the community, a leader in business and philanthropy, and a trailblazer in employee benefits and support.
We are proud of our good corporate citizenship, our philanthropy, and our support for the diverse communities in which we operate. Every year we donate our time and financial support to help fantastic non-profit organizations around the world continue their good work. In 2014 alone, Northern Trust employees logged more than 125,000 hours of volunteer time, and gave nearly 15.4 million in charitable contributions.
A GLOBAL CSR PROGRAM
In 2009, Northern Trust brought together all of our philanthropic, environmental, and business ethics efforts by creating a global Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)structure. Today, Northern Trust strives to be an upstanding global corporate citizen by minimizing our environmental impact, honoring cultural perspectives, and sponsoring community programs.
Northern Trust has aligned our efforts with our guiding principles of service, expertise and integrity. We are dedicated not only to meeting the needs of our clients and shareholders, but giving back to the communities we serve. Volunteerism. Philanthropy. Sound business practices and ethics. And a conservation-minded approach to protecting the environment. All of these comprise our corporate social responsibility. All are integral to our culture of caring, now and in the future. A commitment to a culture of caring means we view our clients as partners. And it means that by turning money into good works, we extend a helping hand to those who can't care for themselves. We proudly advocate corporate citizenship, philanthropy, and support for the diverse communities and environments in which we operate.
Rick Waddell, Chairman and CEO,
I have been working at Northern Trust full-time (More than a year)
Plenty of opportunities, the Tempe office is growing fast. One of the few companies in the greater Phoenix area that give employees exposure to an industry that is dominated by the traditional financial centers, ie NY, Chicago, LA.
Some roles require working CST hours at least some of the time.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Northern Trust (Chicago, IL).
The interview was short and precise. The interviewers were prompt and prepared for the interview. It was conversational and not stressful. I felt good leaving the interview and was very confident that an offer would be sent shortly.
