I have been working at Nucor-Yamato Steel full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Extremely well compensated engineers. High degree of autonomy. Safety culture is absolute. People genuinely care about your well being. Company is financially stable. Develops employees well. Easy to cross train. Easy to migrate to other departments/facilities. Technical engineer's dream (except for metallurgy). Product quality second to none.

    Cons

Engineering practices are underdeveloped. High turnover rate for metallurgy. Team oriented tasks can be difficult. Low interdepartmental coordination.

    Advice to Management

Keep pushing departments for long term plans. Periodically evaluate performance for employee development. Create metrics to measure employee supervision. Keep pushing teamwork.

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Nucor-Yamato Steel.

    Interview

The interview was with an campus recruiter. I briefly talked with the recruiter at a career fair and proceeded to get an interview. The interview was a purely behavioral one for about 30 to 45 mins, and was very conversational. The recruiters were calm and approachable, with a love for their company.
