David Ogilvy’s memo about Christmas cards from December 15, 1958 (and re-sent almost every year thereafter)
"An atmosphere of ferment and innovation."
- this was David Ogilvy's ideal for Ogilvy & Mather. To accomplish it, he behaved as he wanted his company to behave. Thus, a corporate culture was born.
Some of our people spend their entire working lives in Ogilvy & Mather. We try to make it a stimulating and happy experience. We put this first, believing that superior service to our clients depends on the high morale of our men and women.
We help them make the best of their talents. We invest an awful lot of time and money in training — perhaps more than any of our competitors.
Our founder, David Ogilvy, proudly identified Ogilvy & Mather as the “teaching hospital” of the advertising world. The Learning & Development (L&D) team is excited to continue to build on this heritage today. Learning on the job is key, and we support our businesses in helping employees grow in their roles. Leadership and management skills are critical in today’s 360 marketing agency, and we offer creative, interactive opportunities in these areas.
Digital education is paramount to leading on the cutting edge in our industry, and we offer innovative ways to learn and practice. Above all, we are culture carriers – we engage employees, drive personal growth, connect our people, and build confidence, skill, and awareness.
"In recruitment and promotion, we are fanatical in our hatred for all forms of prejudice." - David Ogilvy
Ogilvy & Mather embeds Diversity and Inclusion in all aspects of its talent management and our business. A diverse workforce is the lifeblood of effective marketing communications. We firmly believe that a racially, ethnically and culturally diverse workforce makes for richer consumer insights and understanding. This belief, ingrained in our culture, goes back to our founder David Ogilvy who was the Chairman of the Board of the United Negro College Fund in 1968. From participation in our 10 Professional Networks or the Women Inspiring Women Symposium to trainings & workshops to community outreach – we offer a variety of ways to get involved.
Ogilvy is a leader within this space and we are proud to have recently been named one of the “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” by Working Mother Media, and to receive 100% on Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) Corporate Equality Index.
Our WW Chief Creative Officer, Tham Khai Meng, discussed the power of ideas.
I have been working at Ogilvy & Mather full-time (More than 5 years)
Great founder culture company with a long view. Leadership is invested in Diversity & Inclusion.
It's a big company and as a result a little slow, sometimes...not all the time. They could pay better, too.
Advice to Management
Invest a little more in your people and keep on that diversity and inclusion kick, the broader our backgrounds, the better off we'll be.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Ogilvy & Mather (New York, NY) in May 2015.
Initial phone screening with HR, followed by 3 individual 1:1 interviews with the hiring managers at the Ogilvy office. Once the interviews were completed, I also had an additional meeting with 1 senior manager of the team.
