I applied through other source. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Oliver & Spence Creative Agency (Calgary, AB (Canada)) in March 2013.
This job actually took me by surprise! I had been freelancing ever since I graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi, and I was keeping busy and fresh until we moved at the end of our lease. I had finished a job for the owner of Oliver & Spence Creative Agency, and unbeknownst at the time, she was looking to hire a Junior Graphic Designer/Design Assistant! She loved my quick work pace and my great attitude [even first impressions on the internet have a huge impact], so she asked to view my portfolio! She told me that she knew how hard it is to get that first job because all companies want 1-3 years of firm or agency experience, and the firms want 1-3 years of company experience. She decided that she wanted to give me those years of experience!
Because I'm in the southern portion of the States, and Oliver & Spence Creative Agency is in Canada, we decided to do a trial run to see how well telecommuting would work. For two weeks, I worked on three projects, and they all went extremely well! She hired me on full-time, and we're still going strong!
Oliver & Spence Creative Agency increased my hourly pay into a $25K salary, which is perfect for me, where I live and in my situation! This is a learning process, and special situation, for both of us, so we didn't have to worry about negotiations.
