How common is it for an employer to pro-rate a salary increase if you joined in middle of the year? For context, annual raises are given out in July each year. I joined in January. Normally, I would be getting an 8% raise, but because I came in at about the half year mark, they giving me ~4%. My jaw about just dropped when big boss said this. I mean, inflation doesn't pro-rate. Thoughts on this?

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at On (Portland, OR) in Jul 2022

I was reached out by a recruiter and applied online. The recruiter interview was positive, and I was given a ‘fake’ case study to complete within 3 days. It consisted of print and social assets and a whole presentation. With that amount of work, that time frame was quite unreasonable. At that point, I felt like I was being taken advantage of, but I submitted anyway. I checked in with the recruiter to see if they’ve received my file twice, and I was ghosted. Safe to say they’re most likely conducting initial interviews with everyone and taking ideas from these case studies with the guise of advancing to the next round.
