I worked at Ontario Science Centre (More than 3 years)
Great fun! solid team of colleagues, work in itself wasn't too difficult just crowd management and customer service at times. The hourly pay was great. Plus there's a reciprocal program with other tourist attractions. Looks great after on your resume as well.
Part time, contract. Sparse hours during slow periods. Large staff all receiving 5 -18 hours per week. Lots of nepotism, or straight up favouritism between managment and staff. (the manager I had at the time actually acted very inappropriately towards a friend of mine and then myself as well because we were friends. But because it's a union grievances needed to be filed etc. such a pain for clear as day punishment for no reason..... We were sabotaged into losing our contracts - as in this manager would redo the schedule and "forget" to send it to us making it so we would miss shifts etc.... but apparently she's gone now:))
Advice to Management
Have a full time team running during slow periods and hire contract/part timers for peak periods. I had to work 2 jobs when I worked here. It's a great job for PT people but many of the staff would have probably preferred full time hours.
Short and Sweet - interviewed for a 6 month contract and have never looked back. Really like the opportunities and feel that this organization is on the word to a better place. Hope that everyone can see the great work that we do here
