I have been working at Open Systems Technologies full-time (Less than a year)
OST is a very successful mid-size staffing company that truly wants its employees to run their desks as if its their own business. During the interview, I was told by numerous managers that if you deem yourself entrepreneurial and a go-getter, there is no better opportunity for you than the one you'll get at OST and they were right. In my time at OST, I have seen the entire company work tirelessly to create an environment in which their employees can thrive - unlimited resources, a wonderful culture with free snacks happy hours, parties, and award recognition ceremonies, I see an excellent comp plan (significantly higher than all of its competitors) and just an over-all a positive attitude among all the upper management. I continue to be shocked at the negative reviews I read about on here, because everyone I know who works here loves it. The majority of its employees have been here for over 10 years. I know of employees who left OST and took other jobs only to come back and came back and tell stories of how much they appreciated this company after leaving it. The grass isn't always greener! The truth is, OST wants you to succeed. If you are not a go-getter and you need to be micro-managed, I can see how this environment may not be for you. If you are not TRULY motivated by money at your core, this is not for you. But if you want to work for a company with amazing compensation and top clients, where you are constantly being rewarded with happy hours, parties, monthly holiday celebrations, networking events, unlimited resources, among many other things, there is no other company. There are NO other recruiting firms that treat their staff this generously. I have yet to see any recruiting company with much an environment at all, to be quite honest. I watched BOTH of the CEO's sit in on training programs to speak genuinely and openly about how they want their employees to reach out to them with any questions they have - big or small - as they described the ideal career path for their staff and told stories about the company became so successful. Truly inspiring. I understand disgruntled employees use GlassDoor to vent sometimes, and I really hope that any future OST employee takes my review very seriously. I have been here for 3 years. I have worked at many staffing companies, both larger and smaller than OST and if there is one thing I hope people take away from this it's that there is no staffing company in New York who offer their employees as much as Open Systems does - career wise, and personally.
While OST offers plenty of incentive quarterly, I think weekly incentives would encourage people to work competitively more frequently - and be fun!
Advice to Management
I love how open you are to evolving and keeping things fresh. Keep ruling with open ears and open minds. Your employees appreciate it.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Open Systems Technologies.
A recruiter reach out to me about a position they had available. We chatted on the phone for about half an hour and then she said she would try to get an in person interview scheduled. Went to their office and met a couple people in their conference room. It was a little bit of an awkward interview and everyone I spoke to asked me the same exact questions. They should have either just done a panel interview, or planned different questions to ask me. Overall, the questions were pretty basic and all about my last job. They told me they would reach out to me within the next business day but I never heard anything back from them.
The process for this position was supposed to be a phone screen and in person interview. After the in person interview, I would not have felt comfortable moving forward with them because there was just something strange about how they dodged my questions. I kept asking about their office culture and the only answer i would get is "I wear jeans to work every day". I'm not sure if it was just a mutual mismatch, but I walked out there feeling like I knew nothing about the company.
