I have been working at OpenTV full-time (More than 10 years)
OpenTV/Nagra has a lot of very smart engineers who have been doing television signal handling since before it became digital. It is telling that so many people have been there for 10 years or more. The merger with Nagra has strengthened the security and anti-piracy aspects of the products.
Since the merger into Nagra, many of the engineering projects have been moved to Bangalore, and no significant hiring of engineers has been done in the U.S.
It seems like management is concentrating more on the security side of the company at the expense of the TV side.
Advice to Management
Don't lose good talent, find meaningful work for them.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at OpenTV (San Francisco, CA) in July 2015.
Applied online and spoke to a recruiter that day who set up an onsite the following week. Onsite interview was 3 rounds with a total of 5 people, followed by a take-home technical test. I was told test should take 5 hours. Took more like 30 hours. (Checked with a senior dev friend who confirmed 5 hours was an impossible estimate). No response or acknowledgement after submitting the test i.e. no formal rejection just silence. Rude.
