Careers at OppenheimerFunds

We are a dynamic firm that values teamwork and collaboration, and we encourage independent thinking and provide ample opportunities for our people to stand out and make a difference. We work hard to turn our unconventional wisdom into value for investors and pursue excellent results for ourselves and our firm.

OppenheimerFunds has been described as a Wall Street oasis; somewhere you can experience the excitement of the markets in real time, yet still strike a balance between your personal and professional lives.

We offer competitive opportunities that allow you to build a rewarding career with lifetime potential, and invest in your continual career development. We encourage our employees to apply entrepreneurial thinking and our flat structure means senior leadership is easily accessible. We strive to ensure that our employees have a platform to be heard and offer high visibility into the Company’s strategic goals and growth plans. We fully understand the importance of each individual to achieving our collective goals.

While the big things such as opportunity and career development are important, we recognize the small things matter, too. That’s why we’ve renovatied our New York office to be more open, more comfortable and more collaborative, adding a roof terrace, modern, well-equipped kitchens, and couch areas. We provide free fresh fruit and beverages and each department regularly hosts team outings and events.

Giving back means more than offering temporary assistance. For us, it means changing the perspective of those in need, as well as those who want to help and engage with causes we support. This is the right way to make a real difference for the long term. Our philanthropy program, The Right Way to Change Perspectives, strives to change peoples’ perspectives and inspire them to roll up their sleeves and make a difference. The Right Way embodies our core values and allows us to share them with the world. Whether our donations are of time, money, or both, we bring excellence, integrity, collaboration, and passion to all we do for our local and global communities.

Our Partners include MoMath and Cross Cultural Solutions, through which we are able to offer our employees volunteer opportunities across the globe.

We also offer a Matching Gifts and Volunteer Time Off Programs.

We have one mission: to turn our unconventional wisdom into value for investors through high-conviction active management. We have never wavered in our belief that taking a global investment perspective, having a long-term focus, achieving reward with measured risk and investing with a trusted, tenured team is the right way to create value for our clients.

Founded nearly 60 years ago, OppenheimerFunds is one of the largest and most reputable asset management firms in the country. Our high-conviction culture and commitment to unconventional thinking have allowed the firm to develop innovative strategies that anticipate and address the changing needs of investors, and provide us with a winning formula for delivering strong, consistent investment performance.

We employ a collaborative approach with focused, independent teams of experienced investment professionals. This enables a greater flow of intelligence across the organization, while empowering portfolio managers to hone their investing ideas. We manage risk through independent oversight that is fully embedded in our investment process.

Our strategy and appetite for growth and innovation continue as we develop and offer products we believe are right for our investors and their long-term interests.

At the very foundation of everything we do as a company, lay our Corporate Values. These form the foundation of how we conduct business and define the behaviors, attitudes, and philosophies that guide our company. These are: Excellence, Integrity, Collaboration and Passion.

I worked at OppenheimerFunds (More than 10 years)

    Pros

People, benefits, and reputation. Also, the ability to discuss ideas openly and honestly. I had 6 promotions in a 14 year career at OppenheimerFunds.

    Cons

Constantly changing environment due to CEO turnover. In the 14 years there, there were 5 different CEO's. While change can be good, this amount of turnover confused employees and our direction at time.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing a great job on benefits and open discussion. This is key to longevity and commitment to the organization.

    Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at OppenheimerFunds (New York, NY) in March 2017.

    Interview

I had an HR screen, which went very well. Pleasant experience and a pleasure to speak to the Head of Talent Acquisition. They were looking for every specific detailed experience in a particular area. I had experience in the area but not to the extent they were looking for.
