I have been working at Owens-Illinois full-time
Good pay, reasonable hours, generally nice people to work with, glass containers are a beautiful product to work with, company has global impact and reach.
Old-school company that really struggles to adapt to new ways of working. Very risk-averse and short-term focused. Commercial, and marketing teams have little drive to innovate and sell value -- there is little to no crossover with the technical teams. This industry is in a slow, gradual decline.
Advice to Management
Management is currently "playing it safe" by focusing on cost and high-margin, lower volume products -- a path that ultimately leads to decline. How are you going to save the company from the advances of cans and plastic that slowly eat away little bits of market share every year?
I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Owens-Illinois (Portland, OR) in January 2017.
Online application, followed by phone interview, brought to facility for skills / assessment / personality test, scheduled for plant tour and final interview, Background check and drug test done post-offer.
