PENFED Credit Union – Why Work For Us?

undefined

We Have the Privilege of Helping Our Members “Do Better.”

Our members are the people who proudly and quietly take the field every day to serve their country and community. Many are actively employed by the military, state and local governments, government contractors and our nation’s school systems.  Many others are simply hard working Americans, playing by the rules, working day and night to build a better life for their families.

But whatever they do, and wherever they live, PenFed members share two things: A belief in the American way of life. And a belief in themselves.

So our mission isn’t simply to help our members get by. We exist to help them realize every ounce of their potential. We exist to educate, but to also encourage. We exist to usher their dreams into the land of reality.

And that’s why we strive to provide consistently best-in-class rates on car loans and home mortgages. That’s why our portfolio of award-winning credit cards offers incentives and innovative features that our competitors find hard to match.

Established in 1935, PenFed today is one of the country’s strongest and most stable financial institutions with over 1.5 million members and over $22 billion in assets.  We serve members in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as on military bases in Guam, Puerto Rico and Okinawa.  We are federally insured by NCUA and an equal housing lender.  And we are available to members worldwide via the web seven days a week.  24 hours a day.

In simple terms, we see every day as an opportunity to help our members “Do Better.”  We invite you to learn how PenFed can help you realize your financial goals.

Isn’t it Time for Your Credit Union to be Focused on Your Success?

Securing the American Dream

The Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation (PenFed Foundation) is a national charity working to meet unmet needs of the military personnel and their families in the areas of financial literacy, housing and support for the wounded. They work to ensure that those who selflessly devote their lives to the defense of our country have the resources they need for a secure financial future. They seek to prevent medical emergencies turning into financial hardships for our nation’s defenders. They seek to partner with other organizations to have the greatest impact on meeting unmet needs. They strictly follow all IRS guidelines and provide transparency on how your contributions are used.
Pentagon Federal (PenFed) Credit Union covers the Foundation's labor and rental administrative expenses.

  • Support for their programs comes entirely from the private sector. Your support of the Military Heroes Golf Classic, the Night of Heroes Gala and corporations, foundation, military associations and thousands of individuals is what makes it possible to support our nation's heroes.
  • The PenFed Foundation is a 501 (c)(3) organization; donations are tax deductible to the extent allowable by law.

Who They Serve

U.S. Army | U.S. Air Force | U.S. Navy | U.S. Marine Corps | U.S. Coast Guard | U.S. Army Reserve | U.S. Air Force Reserve |  U.S. Naval Reserve | U.S. Marine Corps Reserve | U.S. Coast Guard Reserve | Department of Defense |  Department of Homeland Security | Army National Guard

The Pentagon Federal Credit Union Foundation is dedicated to assist the men and women and their immediate families in the Department of Defense and Homeland Security. This includes both uniform and non-uniform personnel. Their Military Heroes program provides support to those wounded in the war against terrorism. Given the large numbers of wounded and the long-term nature of their challenges, the government faces budget and logistical problems in meeting their needs. That’s where the Foundation steps in to help.

Military personnel and their families face financial stress due to relatively low pay, extended deployments and combat injuries. Payday lenders target those in the military because they have regular paychecks and must pay their bills or risk losing their security clearances. The Asset Recovery Kit (ARK) gives no-interest emergency cash loans and free professional counseling to help solve money problems.

Military families deserve their piece of the American Dream. They often cannot purchase a home, the cornerstone of this dream because of the high cost of housing. Dream Makers is a grant program which assists first-time home buyers of modest means who are in the service of our country’s national security. Equal Housing Opportunity.

I have been working at PENFED Credit Union full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Truly collaborative teams working together to improve the company and move it forward. Lots of work to be done so can be exciting challenge to be a part of a growing organization. Amazing brand with an honorable mission. Establishing processes and standards not in existence before.

    Cons

Challenging environment sometimes. Some departments taking longer than others to accept change and make changes which leaves some disgruntled. Management can be disconnected due to poor communication. Sense of moving too fast without proper infrastructure. Old ways of doing things clash with new ways of doing things.

    Advice to Management

Communicate more effectively to ensure everyone is on board. Mission is great - engaged employees will get us to achieve our goals. Encourage retirements for long time employees who need to pass the torch to others.
