We believe every item we carry represents a unique opportunity for you to express yourself creatively in everyday life. At Paper Source, we are committed to innovation and we want to be your choice when you want to get creative with the special events in your life.
The first Paper Source store was opened by Sue Lindstrom in Chicago in 1983 to showcase beautiful handcrafted papers from around the world. Throughout the years, we have grown our product offerings and expanded our presence within communities with the introduction of new stores, through our website and a wholesale division, Waste Not Paper.
Sally Pofcher held the role of CEO of Paper Source from 2007 to 2015 and during her tenure she helped nurture more original designs and increased the type of products we offer. Her strong commitment to inspiring customers encouraged the development of more crafting, workshops and demonstrations.
In 2015 Winnie Park took over the role of CEO. Park’s background boasts the title of Senior Vice President of Marketing for the Hong Kong-based luxury shopping leader DFS and Senior Director of Women’s Merchandising for Levi Strauss and Company. Park’s experiences managing influential brands, along with her love of all things creative will help propel Paper Source even further into the future.
Paper Source’s first store opened more than 30 years ago in a vintage building under the elevated tracks in Chicago, and since then we have expanded our warehouse three times. By the end of 2016, Paper Source will have more than 110 stores. We are proud to offer events, classes and workshops in our stores that provide customers with the opportunity to interact with our collection in new and creative ways.
We are proud to offer several monthly workshops in our stores across the country that feature demonstrations in everything from custom rubber stamp cutting to creating handmade holiday cards. Hands-on crafting sessions allow customers to experiment with techniques including (but not limited to) heat embossing, digital cutting and letterpress, all under the direction of a trained associate. Our stores also offer private workshop sessions for small groups — the perfect way to learn new ways to work with our collection of fine paper and stationery.
Paper Source is a destination for wedding stationery and décor. We offer an array of customizable invitations as well as templates for doing it yourself. Our invitations feature current trends including letterpress, thermography and foil accents. Our Colorscope and full color palette provide a range of options for your special day.
Couples can view our helpful wedding planning checklist for a timeline and list of all your stationery needs — from save the dates and invitations to favors and thank you notes. Our swatchbook is another essential resource for couples, including paper swatches of all of our colors. This is the perfect tool to bring when you are picking flowers, dresses and more to maintain a consistent color palette.
Our series of YouTube videos also teaches a variety of different demonstrations of crafting techniques to teach helpful tricks from our associates.

At Paper Source, we live and breathe paper. We create it, craft it, color it, cut it, shape it, and print it. We cherish it and adore it. We admire paper for its innate qualities as it was first made by artisans—with a deep respect for the materials used, the skill of the artist, and its role as a material for expression.
We appreciate that paper is essentially a simple formula, despite all its beautiful subtleties and complexities. Fiber + Water + Energy = Paper. It's a science and it's an art.
Today, with increasing concern about preserving the earth's fragile eco-system, this simple formula has become a more delicate equation. Paper can be labeled as something "bad" if stereotyped as the outcome of inefficient use of energy, or irresponsible forestry and industrial practices. As a purveyor of paper products, it's our responsibility to assess how and where we factor in.
Our credo—to inspire you to "Do Something Creative Every Day"—is rooted in our profound love for paper. We recognize that when it comes to our product, eco-friendly can sometimes equal compromised archival quality or a less-pleasing aesthetic. Our commitment to you, our customer, is to balance the equation by giving you choices, allowing you to enjoy paper as a wonderful vehicle for creativity without compromising your desire for stewardship of the earth.
We've long since partnered with mills that adhere to strict environmental and socioeconomic standards, many of which fuel their processes via wind or hydro power.
We're proud that after a lengthy transition, our exclusive Paper Source collection of solid color papers, cards and envelopes is now made from at least 30% post-consumer waste. (Please note: Our Shimmer, Star Dream, Superfine Whites, and Pure White papers do not contain recycled content at this time, as the material can compromise the beautiful aesthetic and coloring of these papers. They are, however, processed chlorine-free. Stardream papers are also now FSC certified.)
Many colors in the Paper Source line of envelopes and cards are processed chlorine-free (PCF).
We’ve introduced Eco-White and Kraft Paper Bag as the base papers for the Paper Source-designed patterns found in our flat papers and gift wrap, which are both 100% recycled with 30% PCW. (You can find Eco-White and Paper Bag in our card and envelope collection too.)
We're reusing leather, too—with our line of recycled leather datebooks and journals.
Our catalogs and shopping bags have been converted to recycled paper and meet all requirements of the various states that our stores service. We also have eliminated the use of plastic gift wrap shopping bags in our stores, offering our customers paper bags as needed.
Our printers operate with reduced volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and recycle their ink waste.
We have kept our headquarters in a location in Chicago that has easy access to all forms of public transportation. We are also located in a part of the city that is ideal for bike travel, with newly updated bike routes that branch with neighborhoods both near and far. Several of our employees bike to work during the warm summer months!
Paper Source has instituted a successful recycling program in our office, and we're working continuously to find creative ways to reuse leftover paper.
We've transitioned to high-efficiency light bulbs in our stores.
Like many of you, we are on a journey to be better citizens of our planet, while sustaining the joy and creativity embodied by the Paper Source experience. Most importantly, know that our efforts are sincere. Our entire offering is not a model of eco-perfection. But we hope that our efforts help you to bring more "green" to your own creative spark... every day!
Our mission is to inspire you to “Do Something Creative Every Day”- to spark ideas and provide products to celebrate life moments with beauty, humor, originality and personal expression.

Advice to Management
Keep doing what you are doing!
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2+ weeks. I interviewed at Paper Source.
My first contact was with a recruiter to set up a phone screening. After about an hour discussing the company, my experiences, the role, and future plans the recruiter offered to set an interview with the Store Manager.
My first interview took place in the store with the Store Manager. The interview was casual, and relatively routine, other than being asked for a sampling of some creative projects, which I had been requested to bring.
A second interview was arranged within a week, this time with the Regional Manager, and took place at a downtown Chicago location. This interview was also relatively routine, but discussed more in-depth my personal experiences and the company's values and mission.
After the interview, I was notified that my references were to be contacted and when.
