Parkview Medical Center – Why Work For Us?

undefined

Parkview's incredible journey continues

Since it all began in 1923, Parkview Medical Center has provided millions of dollars in charity care to our community and in fiscal 2015 this great work continued. Our slogan “Caring for You” appropriately applied to fiscal 2015 as Parkview experienced significant growth in nearly all service lines.

Parkview remains one of only two large community hospitals that continue to operate independently in Colorado. Parkview’s success continues to be directly attributed to an outstanding local governing board. This board is committed to Parkview and our board members define themselves as Pueblo citizens first and Parkview board members second.  Being independent and not being part of a larger system allows the Board the ability to prioritize key decisions and commit resources based 100% on the needs of our community.

Investment in our community goes well beyond the millions in charity care provided every year.  Parkview continues to bring state-of-the-art technology to our community, including the region’s first da Vinci XI surgical assist robot, only the second of its kind in Colorado.    Additional technology firsts include clean air orthopedic surgical suites, and the regions only surgical “hybrid suite” with integrated Cat Scan capability.

More important than our technology is our investment in our people.  As the region’s largest employer with more than 2,700 outstanding individuals, Parkview continued it strategic growth in fiscal 2015. Parkview’s Internal Medicine Residency, started in 2011, graduated its first full class of 9 physicians this past year and 7 of these doctors will be staying in Pueblo to provide care.  Reviewing this report one can see how important Pueblo is to Parkview but also how important Parkview is for Pueblo.

On behalf of the outstanding employees and volunteers of Parkview, we thank you for choosing Parkview and look forward to serving our great community in the years ahead.

Sincerely,

Michael T. Baxter
President/Chief Executive Officer

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at Parkview Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Scope expands through the roof. Here as an ER Tech you will do iv, lab draw, 12 lead ekg, EJ, IO, wound anesthesia, wound care, custom splinting and many other small things not compared to the above core responsibilities.

You will become one of the IV experts of the hospital and be able to hang with flight for life for your IV skills. If you want to become insanely good with these skills this is the place for you.

It is rare for us to do an IO ( drilling into the bone for access ) you will become so creative where you can get an IV on a pt you learn to make it happen. You will have more level 1 and 2 trauma then you can ever keep count of you will become very good at sticking kiddos as well. Once again thousands of IV sticks a year

    Cons

We are more busy then ever in the ER. Depending on how the schedule lands the ER Tech can be responsible for 12 to 27 patients by yourself while your 70 + pts deep in the waiting room. While this is happening pueblo has a very bad heroin problem so most of your pts veins will be shot this can consume time even for the best of us. Besides that group of pts you also have some other groups that for medical reasons have veins in bad shape that can be a great challenge. On top of that you will get calls from the floors for help because that floor of nurses, the doctor, and other floors that sent their best sticks need help because they all failed to establish an IV thus everyone counts on you all while this is happening. You can drawn very easily here but if you make it you will be one ofnthe best in this aspect of ems.

    Advice to Management

Management is good on nights they have your back and want the best for you their hands are just a little tied to help you further then what the hospital will allow.

    Talent Acquisition Specialist Interview

Anonymous Interview Candidate in Pueblo, CO
    No Offer
    Positive Experience
    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Parkview Medical Center (Pueblo, CO) in September 2016.

    Interview

I had two phone interviews and unfortunately did not make the cut, but the process was delightful - they were friendly, and took a lot of time to build rapport. It felt like a conversation with some good friends. I wouldn't suggest that you shouldn't thoroughly prepare for the process by doing your research, but the process felt friendly and not like being raked over the coals. The recruiter was timely and provided consistent follow up and feedback throughout the process. First initial screen was with the recruiter, followed up by an interview with the recruiter and then an interview with the hiring manager. The really classy part was a follow up phone call within 1 business day letting me know that I didn't get the position and offering me tips for applying for a subsequent position. They phoned to tell me in person, prior to sending an email. Thoughtful and totally representative of the values that they hold dear. I was disappointed, but impressed with the process.
