I have been working at Pennsylvania State Police full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

This position has given me opportunities than I could have ever imagined. There are numerous specialty positions with in the State Police that give you the opportunity to change.

    Cons

Shift work, ranks forget where they came from, promotions are not on merit but a written and oral interview. Study and you get promoted even if you are a do nothing in the job

    Application

I applied online. The process took 6+ months. I interviewed at Pennsylvania State Police.

    Interview

Very long. Written test, oral interview, polygraph exam, physical test, psychological test, background investigation. This is the type of career that you have to really want to be a part of. This isn't a job that you take for a while thinking you'll try it and then move on to something else in 5 or 10 years. Being a Pennsylvania State Trooper is not just a job, it is a lifestyle.
