I worked at Pet Food Express full-time (More than a year)
A pretty non-judgmental company in regards to personal looks (eg: piercings, weight, hair color, etc). The main thing they are super top notch on is their training. From part time associates to store managers, they have a lot of various ways to educate you through trainings, meetings, or day to day learning. Their full-time benefits package is really great...401k options, healthcare options, paid leave (vacation, holiday, sick) time. Also great employee discount.
Sometimes if a store is strapped for people, the flexibility is lost. They can occasionally hire people who just simply do not fit well and then it can cause a chain reaction in productivity and morale. There is often a tend to look at things in the "grey" area, which can cause conflicts in the work place between managers or associates. Some more guidance in what is firmly "right" and "wrong" could be a nice thing to have.
I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at Pet Food Express (Pasadena, CA).
So applying to PFE you can expect to have one or two interviews with a manager and possibly the district manager. After being hired you should expect to spend your first few shifts with a manager being educated on store operations, and how they run everything. There is a huge handbook that you will be given, and a checklist that will be gone over with you. Enjoy.
Honestly didn't feel like there was a negotiation phase.
