I have been working at Pet Food Express full-time (More than 3 years)
They treat you like a person, not a number. They try hard to help their employees grow and learn. There is a strong "employees are like family" vibe that is great to have, and most of the people they hire have good hearts and are hardworking.
Occasionally they have the tendency to hold on to employees that aren't worth the time. They give people multiple chances to improve, which can cause distrust or resentment amongst the rest of the staff who feel like action should be taken faster. It's the companies greatest and worst aspect of all.
They don't pay enough for the expectations placed on their employees. It's a trade-off for having a good working environment, but it is definitely a consensus amongst both new and senior staff that we should get paid for the amount of work we put in. Compare our salaries to other pet food companies, and look at the lack of expectations and knowledge that their employees are held to. PFE employees deserve to be paid more.
Stores that follow the companies philosophies are a joy to work in. Stores with Store managers that don't know how, or don't want to follow the philosophies are nightmares to work in. Particularly those with Store managers that are good at putting on a good show in the face of higher ups, while acting completely different when they have the building to themselves.
Advice to Management
Don't just talk the talk! Following all the management training and applying the companies vision and philosophies will truly help you achieve a great work environment for your staff.
