What Our Sellers Are Saying…

“I feel like I’ve got a new lease on life. By partnering with PetVet Care Centers, I’ve given myself a terrific work/life balance and I no longer have to deal with the administrative responsibilities that were absolutely burying me. Now being a veterinarian in a busy multi-associate practice has become more enjoyable. Goodbye to paper pushing once and for all!”

– Dr. Chris Berg, Rancho Regional Veterinary Hospital

“Selling to PetVet was one of the best decisions I’ve made. The hospital is running more smoothly than ever, and I’ve been liberated from the busy work that was taking up much of my time. PetVet doesn’t dictate to me how I should practice medicine, as oppose to what I have heard concerning some of the other corporate entities out there. I’m free to practice medicine my way, take vacations, and really enjoy life.”

– George Kramer, DVM, Diplomate ACVIM, Cardiology (Atlantic Coast Veterinary Specialists)

“PetVet made the sales process painless for me, and their team has been wonderful in every respect. Likewise for the helpful way they partnered with us during the transition and the daily operations that followed. PetVet clearly has lots of experience making the veterinarians and staff who are new to the network feel welcomed and valued.”

– Dr. Jeremy Wentz (Barton Heights Veterinary Hospital)

“Being part of the PetVet Care Centers network has been a pleasure. Our hospital still has the same work ethic and culture as it had before, but now we have the strength of a nationwide operation behind us. It feels like PetVet has taken something great and made it even better.”

– Dr. Peter Hanna (Park Animal Hospital)

“My partner and I found ourselves increasingly buried in the management of our busy surgery practice. Selling to PetVet Care Centers has allowed me to refocus on what I enjoy most: the patients and surgeries, and delivering quality care. And time off is finally what it should be!”

– Dr. Brian Van Vechten (VRCC)

“We had some apprehension about selling our practice which was established over 53 years ago. The team at PetVet Care Centers made the transition seamless and allowed us to focus on clinical practice and restore our work/life balance.”

– Dr. Nicholas Macy (Santa Cruz Veterinary Hospital)

“My family wanted me to slow down, but I wasn’t ready to retire. After considering many good offers, I sold to PetVet and stayed on as medical director. It’s been over a year now, and all my expectations have been met. I’m still doing what I want, without the headaches of managing a business.”

– Dr. Rich Stolper (Scottsdale Ranch Animal Hospital)

“My goal was to lessen the headaches of ownership that were taking up so much of my time, and spend more time doing what I love — helping my patients. I accomplished everything I wanted. I got a top offer for my practice, put money in my pocket, and continued to work at the clinic with a good salary. I got to take more time off, too, a benefit I highly recommend for all hospital owners who are feeling burnt out.”

– Dr. Sheryl Scolnick (Pets on Broadway)

“PetVet Care Centers can really customize your deal based on your needs. And they do it really well.

We sat down at the table and we worked out a deal that was perfect for me and perfect for them. We’re 2 years into this deal and it’s still fantastic. I really like these guys.

Obviously when you sell an animal hospital it’s an incredibly emotional experience. So many different reasons for so many different people. I’m 63 years old and I have young daughter. The time with her is very precious. PetVet Care Centers really gives me some quality time with my daughter.

I don’t want to lose sight of the animals and the customers. We’re a better animal hospital and our customers are serviced better. You don’t want people that just going to walk away and leave you to manage yourself into the ground. No, they’re going to be there to support you. They’re going to give you the IT help. They’re going to give you the continuing education. They’re going to give you all sorts of management help as well as the capital.”

– Dr. Kim Hammond (Falls Road Animal Hospital)

“Since becoming part of the PetVet network, my family time has increased and the constant pressure I was once under as an owner has been dramatically reduced. We’re glad we’ve become part of the PetVet team.”

– Dr. Robert Harner (Irvine Pet Complex)

“We could have made a deal two or three years from now. We were prepared to wait. But when PetVet Care Centers made us their offer, we knew we wanted to act quickly. The financial rewards were clear — the time was right.”

– Dr. Arnold Lesser (NYVSC)

“Selling to PetVet has helped preserve the practice I helped to build. Day-to-day operations and the hospital identity are the same, yet at the same time we have become more efficient. Also, I get to practice medicine the way I’ve always practiced — a perfect solution.”

– Dr. Robert Bergman (Carolina Veterinary Specialists)

“Our experience of being acquired by PetVet Care Centers was extraordinary! The process leading up to the sale was, unlike previous negotiations with others, fast, easy and painless. They want the practice to continue to grow and we are still part of all that, without the business headaches.”

– Dr. Grant Patrick (Montecito Veterinary Center)

Pets on Broadway“PetVet takes care of the business end of the practice, so I don’t have to.”

Those are the words of Sheryl Scolnick, DVM at Pets on Broadway Animal Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Sheryl and her partner started their general practice from scratch—and after building it into a thriving enterprise, sold it to PetVet Care Centers. “I was looking for an exit strategy,” Sheryl says, “and I discovered PetVet is a great company to sell to.”

Dr. Scolnick on having a pocket full of cash without a day full of hassles:
“PetVet allowed me to cash out, decrease my responsibilities, and take more time off. So now I can enjoy work minus the headaches. One thing that didn’t change is I’m still doing what I love—managing medical cases as I see fit. I have total medical freedom.”

On the business acumen and resources that PetVet brings to the table:
“I love the fact they take over HR functions, accounting, and IT responsibilities, to name just a few. They also give us the buying power that lowers our cost for inventory. PetVet doesn’t just come in and buy your clinic; they strive to make it even better. Within the first month, for example, they upgraded 75% of all the computers and monitors, and installed a new server.”

On working with the PetVet hospital acquisition team:
“I had no reservations about selling once I spoke with PetVet’s CEO, Gino Volpacchio, and his Business Development Manager, Uri Failla. I had a great connection with them. I trusted them. And I knew that after I completed my transaction with them, they would take the practice to the next level.”

I have been working at PetVet Care Centers full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

My prior clinic owner retired and sold his practice to PetVet. I have seen no major negative impacts from the change in ownership; in fact the only changes I have seen have been positive ones. Being a long-time employee, I immediately got 4 weeks of PTO which was nearly double what I had before, and CE PTO outside of that. Health insurance ( a little pricey, but better than nothing). 401k (the match isn't great but heck, it is SOMETHING). Our regional manager has been nothing but helpful and responsive (thank you Emily).
We have not been a PetVet hospital for a full year yet so I cannot speak to the review process at this time, but I remain hopeful that it will be fair and timely: My last formal review was more than 3 years ago!

    None at this time.

    Interview

The process was fairly quick with deadlines for meetings being important. There was extensive testing to ensure I was a fit for the position and company. The in person interviews were comfortable and informative
