I have been working at Petco full-time
Great company. I love that it's so relaxed and laid back on the day to day level. Most of their animals are really well taken care of.
First, bettas? Do not belong in bowls. They require a minimum of 2.5 gallons, heated and filtered. Heated! Filtered! This is common knowledge. Second, goldfish need at least 30 gallons each. Both of these fish are listed as needing tank sizes which kill them. And these are listed in Petco's own training videos. Fish are animals too.
Second, training. I've worked here for almost four months and have barely been trained because there's no hours set aside for training! Is this a joke? Bring back dedicated training hours. It's no wonder newbies get complained about, even among our coworkers. We don't know how to do anything.
Advice to Management
Bring back training hours, don't pretend certain pets don't need more than you are willing to tell customers they need. Look, most of our customers would happily get bigger and more expensive everything for their pets. The issue is you wont let us tell them what their pets actually need
I applied online. I interviewed at Petco (San Antonio, TX) in October 2017.
Applied was called in around four days or so. Went in for a interview the following day. Horrible experience didn't even ask questions about the job or nothing related at all. Just basically asked what are my hobbies. The interview was not objective at all. And kept asking if I had any questions. And just let me go like that. Felt discriminated. I got a better job in a better environment, higher pay, and basically a dream job. I feel I am overqualified for this job anyways. Just had to put this out there.
