    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at PicnicHealth (San Francisco, CA) in Jan 2021

    Interview

Manager screening: I had some introductory conversations with the VP of Engineering.

Karat technical interview: this was a one hour screen-share coding session to work through problems.

Take-home project: PicnicHealth have a "mostly working" codebase they ask you to get working and to suggest/implement improvements. In my case I focused mostly on backend improvements. The PicnicHealth team do a code review (interactive via Github) and so I made some additional changes based on that.

Onsite: after an initial introduction to the team, we discussed some extensions to the take-home and then spent the rest of the day in 1-on-1 pairings working through the code. This time doubled as an opportunity to find out more about the team and vice versa, but I was pretty focussed on trying to get the work done!
    Interview

There was no specific "question" in the sense of a particular piece of programming trivia. Since the discussion started from what I had done on the take-home, the discussion topics were things like "please explain why you chose to separate the database interaction logic from the model classes".
