    Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Pillar Technology Group (Ann Arbor, MI) in June 2017.

    Interview

I did a phone interview with HR, an in-person interview with a team member, and then an in-person portfolio review.
The interview process itself was fine. I thought that the two people I spoke with in-person were pleasant, friendly, and very conversational. They did a wonderful job fielding my questions. One of my main questions/concerns was about the culture of the company. They went out of their way to assure me that they treated all applicants and team members like family and with respect.
Towards the end of my portfolio review, one of the people I was speaking with said "I feel like you will make a great fit on this team" and I was pretty happy about that.

I was a bit surprised to receive a voicemail the following Monday saying they were choosing not to move forward with the interview process. If I wasn't a good fit, or I wasn't as strong as the other candidates, that's totally fine. However, given their emphasis on company culture and treating people 'right' I thought it was extremely unprofessional and downright tacky to relay the information via email, especially since I had multiple interactions with them at that point.
