I have been working at Pine River Capital Management full-time (More than 5 years)
Foremost, excellent people to work with (the best I've seen in this industry). Very competitive pay and benefits. Highly-transparent senior management. Major investments in talent, platforms, and infrastructure to make everything work. And an "entrepreneurial" culture where each person can have a large impact and pursue personal and career growth.
Rocky period for the hedge fund industry stunted the firm's massive growth and expansion. Folks who were very happy when things were skyrocketing have found it challenging to adjust to a less than stellar period. Morale issues and turnover followed, but those who have stuck it out seem highly-committed and realistic about the cyclical nature of this business.
Advice to Management
Ignore many of the negative "sour grapes" comments posted by individuals who have left the firm. Keep the long view and continue making pragmatic decisions to sustain the firm and do right by its investors.
I applied through college or university. I interviewed at Pine River Capital Management.
I applied through my college's career site and had an on campus interview. It was a very technical and short (30 minutes) interview with no behavioral questions at all. Questions were based on what you listed on your resume. There weren't any white board questions - mostly just about general data structures and algorithms.
