You’re a freelance team on a pitch. How many concepts do you walk into the first creative meeting with?

I care about making good work but I want to do that within the constraints of it being an actual job. I would never do any of this on my own out of “passion”. I keep working with creative leads who expect me to not treat this like a job, be “proactive”, pitch ideas even without briefs, producing them on my own and finding my own resources to make them and I can’t think of anything I want less. I literally hate proactive work. Your failure to secure real clients and briefs shouldn’tbe my problem.

I need some help on how to pitch this proposal to the CEO of my firm. We are less than 50 heads in design industry. Office hours are 8:30-6. The 8:30-9 period is for folks to come in, grab coffee, get situated and be at their desk to work by 9. In design, it’s nature for people to stay later and work longer. So why don’t we say 9-6 instead? Or better, what about 8:30-5? Or even 5:30? On paper 8:30-6 is long. Folks are still coming in late. How do I pitch 8:30-5?

I can’t stand pitch life. Tension. Changes until the last minute. Late nights. Weekends. I hate this. I don’t want it. Someone has to make some serious changes on pitch culture in agencies. I’m completely done with this.
