The work is very government contract-centric, which limits your growth as a professional. Non co-located employees can feel isolated.
Advice to Management
Diversify the work streams, mentor junior PMs, promote certifications (it pays off in proposals), deal with problem employees early (management by objectives) and always follow up and stick to your guns if you said XYZ will happen... make it happen.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Planning and Learning Technologies (Newport News, VA) in January 2012.
First had a phone screening with HR? and then in-person interview. I met with one of the PMs, VP of Instructional Services, and an ISD. We went over various processes and methodologies and discussed what works - or doesn't - in gov contracting (due to low bidding reqs)
