I have been working at Power & TEL full-time (More than 10 years)
Why would so many current employees have over 20+ years of experience here if the company wasn't doing something right? My 30+ years here have seen the evolution of P&T from a regional supplier to becoming a company with a global reach. There is vision for the future from the management. Power & Tel offers an exceptional 401(k) plan with matching funds up to a certain amount; a very nice health insurance package; paid vacation & sick time; profit sharing. It is a sales company. We have to sell material to make a profit to keep the doors open. To that end, there is a lot of emphasis in this area of our business. If you start off here in an other-then-sales position you do have the opportunity to move into that field when a position becomes available. I've found the office environment to be fun for the most part. Headaches? Sure but what job doesn't have problems of some type. People here are extremely friendly and helpful. It's the people that make this a great place to work. Whenever someone leaves, for whatever reason, they usually say they'll miss their fellow employees the most. If you're willing to be taught, if you're up for a challenge, if you like a family atmosphere, then SERIOUSLY check out Power & Tel.
I don't care what all the "expert books" say, I don't think clothes have a bit to do with the performance of an "office staff". Ditto the presence of personal music. Also, common sense should come into play a lot more often than overriding processes. Despite all this, I still like working here!!!
Advice to Management
Reward your long term employees with more vacation time, at least. Train new employees in our operating systems from the get go. Worry less about inundating them with company philosophy and more on getting them to be productive members of their departments. Have someone who has the time to teach to interact with them extensively during their first days, instead of hit and miss training from various people. Did I mention reward your long term employees with more vacation time at least? When someone is let go/leaves from a department, hire a replacement instead of piling their workload onto another employee, and still expect the same results/production from fewer staff. That new math doesn't make for a happy or healthy employee.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Power & TEL.
Many face to face (via webcam) interviews. Every person was great and helpful, barely felt like an interview. Made myself feel more confident in the company when I knew they cared about the people they were hiring and spent the time to screen them.
