    Pros

    - Learning is a value that is actually practiced and not just said. There are so many learning opportunities (lunch and learns, office hours, book clubs, courses + certifications) available to all employees on a regular basis. Opportunities to work with incredibly smart individuals. - Leadership is open to feedback and constantly seeks it. - Compensation is top of the line. Benefits and perks are fantastic. - Work life flexibility. Autonomy is high amongst most teams depending on your role.

    Cons

    - A lot of change that can be confusing at times but it is a start up so it is to be expected. - No office can feel a bit isolating at times. - Product can be hard to understand if not in a technical role but there are many individuals within the org that are happy to help with product knowledge.

      I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Prefect (United States) in Apr 2023

      Interview

      Initial call with internal recruiter, who was very pleasant. Had a 30 min call with the head of engineering (who seemed excited) which went fine though the technical issues the company described facing seemed to be due to a lack of experienced engineers… or a lack of willingness to pay for technical solutions that handle their data requirements. Then had a live coding session with an engineer that couldn’t find much wrong with my solutions other than I didn’t use VSCode, his preferred IDE. Got notified the decided to pass a couple days later. My overwhelming impression is the company needs more experienced management and staff if the want to get past the current plateau.

It means taking a local process, deploying it on remote infrastructure, and having it run when it needs to, which may or may not be on a schedule. 🪜 Over the course of 2023, workflows have changed: data engineers need native support for events, automations, webhooks, integrations, and so much more. While Prefect has always supported a pure Python dev experience and diverse infrastructure, we are diving deep into this new world of dynamic workflows. 🔂 Now for our new website. While we're really excited about our new brand identity, we are most excited about how we can help the ecosystem understand Prefect's place in it: the only workflow orchestrator that is as committed to scheduling as it is to observability. This is a new chapter for Prefect, and we're only getting started.

    Why is Python so useful for gluing things together? Readability. When there’s a database or a web service for everything, all thats left to do is express the process that uses those components to achieve an outcome. Python enables engineers to express those processes clearly. 🩺 Yet, there's still a pain point. Issues usually don't arise from a script itself, but everything that comes after “it works on my machine”. Airflow gave engineers the ability to run Python code remotely, but at a cost of the very thing that makes Python great, its readability. It doesn't have to be this way—the practice of data engineering should be both pythonic and easily support distributed workloads. Our approach to this problem: decorators that natively support Python concepts.
