I have been working at Price f(x) full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Price f(x) sells the most full featured software in the pricing software space, implemented at a fraction of time and cost of the first generation providers. It so exciting to have so many happy customers who have seen returns on their project so quickly. By far the highest number of satsifed customers I've ever seen in the industry. The culture is completely supportive of insuring employees are reaching your personal goals and every department works together to create success for our employees and customers. Very transparent management report every week on our progress as we become the market leader, so we all can celebrate our success and work together to overcome the hurdles.

    Cons

We are growing so fast and bringing in new people every day. Our processes are still being defined, which can present it's own challenges. You have to be a able to live with a little "chaos" at times, but we all come together to make everything work.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work. As we grow it will be harder to keep the "small town" culture which we all love.

    Solution Architect Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Price f(x) (Chicago, IL) in November 2018.

    Interview

I was introduced to Price f(x) via an external recruiting firm. After researching the company I was immediately interested in both the business area and the products. After a few days I had a short call with the Solution Architect group practice manager. The conversation was relatively informal and friendly which seemed like a good indication of the culture at Price f(x). I was assigned a coding problem at the conclusion of the call. The concept of the problem was relatively straightforward and I was instructed that I could complete it in either Groovy or vanilla Java. Having never used Groovy before and wanting to give it a shot, the assignment took a little longer than it should have, but overall was not unusually complex. I was told that the purpose was more to understand my thought process than as a strict coding problem. I received feedback within a day or two that my solution made sense and was given an example of the "ideal" problem solution.

Less than a week later, I was invited to come in to the local office for a face-to-face interview. I met with one of the senior project managers and another solution architect based in town. The interview was friendly and conversational. I went though the standard points about work experience and education and we discussed some of the trends in technology and software design. Both interviewers were happy to answer my (numerous) questions about culture and methodology at Price f(x) (which are my hot button items).

I received an offer a little more than a week later and an invitation to meet with some of the folks from the Prague office that were in town. I accepted both and got some additional feedback on the company culture and structure when meeting with the folks from Prague. It was overall a very positive interview experience.

    Interview Questions

    • The homework assignment was interesting and not overly challenging. However, the way it was structured provided several evaluation points for the hiring staff at Price f(x). I thought it was a good way to get a better understanding of how a candidate approaches technology problems.   1 Answer
