ON THE RIGHT TRACK
Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, is at the forefront of the railroad revolution, with a blend of history and innovation that drives us each day.
Whether it rolls on the rails or comprises the rails itself, our products are operating in over 100 countries, and our people are working to make the next century of railroading as historic as the last.
Progress Rail Services began in 1983 and grew rapidly to become one of the largest suppliers of railroad and transit system products in North America.
In 2006, Progress Rail Services became a part of Caterpillar Inc. Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD), in turn, came aboard as part of Progress Rail in 2010. Electro-Motive Diesel started in 1922, pioneering the introduction of diesel-electric locomotives. EMD became a part of General Motors in 1930, and led the way in locomotive technology in the decades that followed.
Together, Progress Rail and EMD make up the Rail Division of Caterpillar. In 2016 the brand identity of both companies changed to Progress Rail, A Caterpillar Company. The change reflects our commitment to setting the pace in modern rail technology as one team – whether it’s what rolls on the rails or it’s the rail itself.
We have been at the forefront of railroad innovation since we led the switch from steam to diesel-electric more than 90 years ago. That blend of history and innovation still drives us today.
Whether it rolls on the rails or is the rail itself, you will find our products at work in more than 100 countries. And you will find our people at work on solutions to make the next century of railroading as historic as the last.

Advice to Management
Provide more training for all faculty leaders.
I applied online. I interviewed at Progress Rail, A Caterpillar Company (Albertville, AL) in April 2017.
Very relaxed and informal. I met the Manager and was given a tour of the Operation Center. I was introduced to some of the people on the team I would work with if hired. We then went to the managers office and he looked over my application and asked me a few questions about my skill set. He made it extremely easy. It was like I was just talking to an old friend. I didn't feel nervous like I have in other interviews.
