Company Updates

  • During her time at Protective, former intern Courtney learned just how much service can make an impact.

"I know the best leaders serve others. I don't see myself being able to have a successful career without serving my community,” she said.

  • Last summer, our President and CEO Rich Bielen signed the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion™ Pledge. Throughout the month of February, we will celebrate CEO Action's Days of Understanding, highlighting what makes us unique and providing an opportunity to connect through our similarities. Follow along on our social media channels as we share our employees’ unique stories about what inspires, defines or has had an impact on their lives.

Protective Life – Why Work With Us?

We think our President & CEO said it best: “At Protective, we believe investing in our talent and culture is one of the smartest things we can do to reinforce our commitment to employees and ensure our continued success.”

At Protective, we believe in serving people and that's more than a guiding principle for how we treat our customers; it extends to our employees as well. We take care of the people who take care of our customers by working to provide employees with the resources to succeed personally and professionally. The work we do has an impact on millions of lives - and you can be a part of it.

One part of our culture is our commitment to maintaining a work environment across the company that's collaborative and agile. Solution building is a team sport here and you’re encouraged to think beyond your job title. While the company may be large, our agile approach enables interdisciplinary teams to work together on initiative-based projects.

Another part of who we are is our commitment to the communities we serve. The Protective Life Foundation focuses on improving the quality of life in our local communities and collaborating with others to create the greatest possible impact. You can be a part of actively serving hundreds of nonprofits, ultimately touching thousands of people each year.

We try to encourage our people to have healthy lifestyles, achieve personal financial goals, and balance both work and personal needs with a comprehensive benefits program. From providing medical, personal wellness, and retirement benefits, to tuition reimbursement, continuing education, scholarship programs, and many other learning opportunities, our programs are designed to be a life-enriching resource for our employees and their dependents. We're always evolving to meet the needs of our employees and recently announced our upgraded paid parental leave policy. You can learn more about Protective’s benefits on our website.

At Protective, we have always been a values-driven company.

Do the Right Thing

Do what’s right, always. Live with integrity and honesty. Say what you mean, do what you say and stand behind what you do.

Serve People

Have a servant’s heart. Serve by leading people to the right solutions. Always treat others as you would like to be treated. Improve the quality of life for those we serve.

Build Trust

Build relationships on trust. Listen. Understand what people need. Care. Earn trust. View each customer as a friend for life.

Simplify Everything

Life is complex. Our business shouldn’t be. Tear down the walls of complexity, relentlessly. Use common sense. Communicate clearly. Streamline, clarify and simplify everything we do.

Through individual training and development plans, a company-wide focus on health and wellness, and initiatives to advance diversity and inclusion for everyone, Protective‘s core values are evident in everything we do for our employees.

It’s an exciting time to be part of Protective. We are a financially stable company, nimbly adapting for the future and positioned for even greater growth. Our employees make a difference every day in the company, in the lives of our policyholders, and in the communities where we live.

Protective was founded in 1907 with a dual mission: to provide valuable protection to customers and to serve the communities in which we live. Throughout our history, we have been a catalyst for change, giving to programs that improve lives while bringing together community leaders and others to support a wide array of health, human service, civic, economic, cultural and educational nonprofits.

In 1994, we formalized this commitment with the creation of the Protective Life Foundation. Since that time, we’ve maintained a rich tradition of philanthropy and community service. Over the last 20 years, the Foundation has given more than $64 million to hundreds of organizations across our communities. We look for opportunities to have the largest impact possible. Support for community organizations can be magnified even more when we couple volunteerism with the Foundation’s financial gift. Employees at Protective are provided numerous opportunities each year to participate in service projects or join community-oriented initiatives.

If community service is important to you, through your participation in the Protective Life Foundation activities you will be exposed to a range of nonprofit organizations where you can make a difference.

Protective Life Reviews

  • "Honestly the best job I’ve had"

Benefits and pay. Opportunity to work from home. Up front PTO. Chill/non stressful atmosphere. Two days out the week to wear jeans (depending on your dept, you may be able to wear them daily!). Covered parking. Great cafeteria. Free, unlimited coffee and green tea. Nice desk/cubicle space that you’re free to personalize. Easy work if you’re a natural at multitasking. Opportunity for yearly raises and growth. Reasonable “point” system. On site gym, nurse, massage therapist and free OTC medications. Healthy environment if you’re into fitness & eating healthy. No one hovering over your shoulders as you work. Tuition reimbursement.

30mins for lunch , only because the office is so big, walking to the cafe or break room alone takes 15mins. My advise is to invest in your own personal microwave and mini fridge if u need it and eat at your desk.

    Advice to Management

Continue to make employees happy, happy employees make for great customer service and a greater work ethic. I personally asked several coworkers what they believed to be a disadvantage working here and they had nothing negative to say! Those coworkers love their job and most importantly don’t mind being there. I also look forward to waking up and working for Protective!

    Easy Interview

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Protective Life in October 2019.

Contacted by a recruiter for initial screening, then contacted a few weeks later for a phone interview. I can't speak for other departments, but the recruiter and the interviewers (I interviewed with three people at once) were all polite, professional, straightforward, and slightly laid back. I appreciate that there were none of the standard "tell me about a time when you had to..." type questions.
