Everything starts with our technology team members – our processes, the technology tools used by our banking and operations teams, and our amazing client service. Since a majority of our systems are created in-house, our technology team is the driving force behind our rise to the second largest mortgage lender in the country.

IT Team Member Perks:

Bullet Time - is a weekly four-hour period in which technology team members can work on any personal project or idea they want, even those not related to the Quicken Loans business. 385 new projects were worked on, and Bullet Time continues to churn out innovations that significantly help team members and the business itself, including a conference room camera that gives those on a conference call a 360-degree view of the room in high definition.

Hackathon - In 2014, Quicken Loans held its first hackathon, where small, agile groups of IT team members were invited to create “the next big thing” in a 24-hour time period. More than 100 team members participated, which was live-streamed to all IT team members. Affectionately called “Hack-o-ween,” with a Mad Scientist Lab theme, the event featured Halloween-themed food, horror movies throughout the night and video games.

Pitch Day – In 2014, Quicken Loans launched Pitch Day, a company-wide initiative to find incredible concepts that will elevate our business. Out of the 200 team members who submitted ideas, eight (four of which were technology team members) were selected to present in front of 300 team members while the rest of the company watched on a live broadcast. Ideas included a digital security badge, a persona-driven task management app and a Detroit art festival, among others. The winner received a trip to Cancun with their significant other while the runners-up each received $500 gift cards.

Internship experience –
The internship experience with Quicken Loans provides skills and knowledge that cannot be learned in a classroom setting. The real world experience, intern-only events and volunteer opportunities create a work balance that is enjoyable for young professionals.  Our Interns are involved from day one in real business issues, project management, operations and innovative problem solving. Interns work side by side with our full-time team members and with the help of their team and mentor, we enable them get real business experience and to exceed their own expectations. 
Mentor experience –
Each intern is provided with a mentor to guide them through their intern experience. The Interns are provided real-time coaching and encouragement by their mentor, plus their mentor will oversee their daily growth, learning and make sure they have a good understanding of the business. They want to see you succeed in everything that you do and they are the first one to share your success with you.

Internship Events –
During the duration of the internship, there are many optional events available for interns to participate. These events range from a bus tour & scavenger hunts of Detroit, Tigers Games, Tour of Ford Field, River walk Carnival, Ice Skating in the Winter, and Volunteering within the community of Detroit.

    I worked at Quicken Loans full-time (More than a year)


    Tons of opportunity for advancement and growth both personal and professional. Compensation is very good, easily 6 figures for mortgage bankers after the first year. Team leaders and management are genuinely invested in your success and the culture is one of caring about your clients. I honestly would never work for another mortgage company because QL honestly has a culture through and through of conservative lending and responsible business.


    Long hours, expect to be pushed to achieve higher and higher sales goals. 1 weekend day a month is required but if you are behind pace for goal you should expect to work more. I often remoted in from home to access client files and help clients looking at homes during the weekend.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing and take over the mortgage industry!

    I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Quicken Loans (Detroit, MI).


    The process wasn't too lengthy. I interviewed on the phone with a recruiter, then had two interviews with leaders that I would work with in the future. None of them were overly intense, and technical questions weren't asked; Quicken mostly wants to make sure you're an upstanding individual before they get into further details.
