We are investing substantial time and resources in outreach to local groups that may have not yet connected with outdoor recreation. We're taking inner city kids on mountain bike rides and introducing novice adults to basic camping. We're putting together trail projects and inviting the whole neighborhood. We're providing grants so that specially-abled people can enjoy outdoor recreation through trained guides and customized equipment. By introducing ourselves to new groups, we're paving the way for a future of outdoor recreationists and environmental stewards.
I have been working at REI part-time (More than a year)
Its great to work in a place with high values, respect and kindness from the whole team of employees and management. If you work hard and are actually interested in the company and what it stands for, you will go far. but if you treat it like a job at a fast food joint, then you won't get full time. They are great about giving you the hours and schedule you want if you work hard and take pride in your work.
Its still retail so you deal with ridiculous people that come in.
Advice to Management
Each management team is different. My management team is amazing and they truly live out REI's core values.
I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at REI in February 2018.
I applied online and the next day I got a call regarding my application. It was a quick 5 minute get to know you with one of the managers, the questions were like why do you want to work at REI and what's your availability. After that we set up the interview for the next day. For the interview I dressed business casual, and they brought me to back room with two different managers (not the one I talked to on the phone). I was nervous at first but the employees at REI are very friendly and although it is an interview they laugh and joke with you like it's just a normal conversation. They asked basic interview questions, why REI, what outdoor activities are you into, what sales experience do you have etc... , they were both very engaged and each had questions to ask. Come in to the interview with some experience doing one of the outdoor activities they sell products for on their site, also do a little research and come up with an answer for what their motto real.alive.connected means to you. It's also good to know what kind of products they sell before hand.
