Reducing harm via product portfolio development and assortment - Tobacco Harm Reduction is about reducing the risks faced by adult tobacco smokers by encouraging public health officials to provide accurate information and engaging legislators to institute regulatory policies that reflect the comparative risks between cigarettes and smokeless tobacco products.
Accelerating the decline in youth tobacco use - Minors should never use tobacco products. We support states' decisions to impose greater fines on retailers for selling to minors, as well as fines on minors that are found in possession of tobacco. We support and are expanding the “Right Decisions, Right Now” program, which is aimed at helping prevent tobacco use among youth. This program, available at no cost to youth leaders, educators and other adults, teaches young people how to make good decisions, including the decision to be tobacco-free.
Resolving these controversial issues related to the use of tobacco - More than 43 million American adults exercise their freedom of choice to smoke, despite many decades of declines in smoking rates. We believe that the use of tobacco products will not cease in the near term. We believe that innovations like digital vapor cigarettes, snus and nicotine gum, combined with efforts to reduce youth tobacco use can help resolve controversial issues related to tobacco use.
